Heard it was nice. Not much around other than the Dolphin park and a few restaurants in Confressi but a cab to Costambar (not much there either) and day trips to Sosua and Cabarete. (plenty to do there) A few restaurants in Puerto Plata which is 10 minutes by cab away.

wud, the radio station i listen to in TO sent a wedding party down there in april. one of the dj's was getting married and the station gave away trips to listeners as well. by all reports the hotel was great.

they are still giving away 1 trip per week to the resort. sounds to me as if they are having trouble filling the place.

i'm sure you've seen the web site, but here it is anyway .

The Iberostar Costa Dorada and the Coral Marien are two newer hotels (2-3 years) near the Playa Dorado complex of hotels. They would also be equal to the Rio's (mambo, bachata, and merengue). I'd stay out of the Playa Dorado complex!

Beach is fair. View from lobby upon arrival is fabulous. Rooms vary widely in quality and repairs needed (or not) Food varies and not all restaurants are always open. Multiple swimming pools, uneven entertainment, unpredictable supply of quality liquors, lots of horrible reviews on various other sites. Other okay reviews.

Be prepared to climb a lot since the resort is spread up and down a hill. Uneven would be the best way to describe it. You have to buy the meal plan and then you will be approached to invest in the property--seriously. Search the other resort review sites and use your judgement.

It is a low star resort masquerading as a four star resort--in short.
