Default Mosquito bites

One year when we came to the DR my wife got many mosquito bites.
We landed in the afternoon and by the next morning she had got 26 bites just on one leg.

Whats the best things to do to avoid them (or at least - get less bites)?

Thanks

Default There are several remedies

Skin so Soft is said to keep them away.
Any Bug repellant with DEET is very good, like OFF Deep Woods

I find that sun screen is pretty effective in most cases-when I am on the golf course.

Bayer has some good products that work here. A little bottle of repellant in the hand bag for evenings will make your stay so much nicer.

Default RUM or BEER

Try drinking lots of Rum or Beer!!!

If it doesn't help in keeping the mosquitos away, at least you won't feel the bites

Default Try Avon

Other then mosquito repelent which does work, Avon skin soft is the secret North American remedy. Somehow the mosquitoes keep far away if you have that on your body. Where are you located? Do you have access to Avon products?

Default Bug Jizz

I always tried natural stuff. I don't like putting chemicals on my bod, but I do put lots of beer y ron inside!

I use a mixture of citronela, patcholi, lavender, cedarwood, and a few other oils I can't think of right now. But it works for me. They still buzz around but they don't seem to bite. Sold alot of my mixture in USA. I called it Bug Jizz!

Also if you do get bites use Tea tree oil on the bite. Takes the itch away fast. I also use the tea tree oil on my dogs itches too.

Deep woods OFF works very well. It dosen't smell very good but it does a great job of keeping the mosquitos away.

Yes! I don't leave home without it-- spritz around the ankles/calves, because they love to hang out in low places.

This can be accomplished at home, but it's sweet to offer a cure for the afflicted traveling with you. :)

Default I posted this on your other thread, not sure if you saw it

Just came from the travel nurse--it's vitamin B1 (thaiamine) that acts as a natural mosquito repellent (not B12 as I previously indicated)--take 300 mg per day (or 100 mg 3 times per day) beginning 2 days prior to exposure. Do not exceed 3 weeks continuous use of Vitamin B1. If you don't perspire much this may not work as well. Also, wear light colored clothing.

Also don't underestimate garlic tabs--they're starting to do research on garlic & mosquitoes due to West Nile Virus here in the midwest US.

Deet's a given.

The mosquitos love me while I was in the DR, I think I even had dreams of them chasing me lol! I can tell you I used Muskol and it worked okay still got bitten sometimes so it wasn't so good! I brought after bite to help sooth the bites, good luck! I hope they don't love you as much as they loved me.
