Default Power in Punta Cana?

I realize Punta Cana is a long way from were the flooding is but I have heard it has disrupted power sporadically throughout the island. Does anyone know for sure what is going on?

Because power in the country has been unreliable for more than 35 years now, the Dominican Republic has probably the most reliable power systems anywhere. For instance, there can be a major hurricane here and all normal (government-run) power grids wiped out and the country continues to be functional because most businesses have a back up power system that is ready to kick in and stay operating for many hours. That is for Santo Domingo, the capital city, and lots of the large cities. Ditto for the resorts, hotels, etc.

The power in Punta Cana is supplied by a private company. Thus, blackouts are practically unheard of and when if they occur, backup systems kick in. Power outages is not a problem at all in Punta Cana.

The rains in Punta Cana caused no floods as there is no river in that area. And the rains were nothing but heavy rains for a day or two.

Once you get to Punta Cana please post a reply to the board so you too can serve as an eye-witness poster on weather.

Today we were told the weather is sunny in Punta Cana. There is no reason to believe that your main concern when you come is to have enough sunblock.
