Whats the cheapest way to call the US from the DR?

When I go to DR I activate my Cell phone and use that to call my son every nite.

If you plan on traveling often, I definately agree with the cell phone idea. You can buy a refurbished cell phone (like little flip phone) from $800 pesos to about $1500 pesos. And then buy calling cards to add minutes to it. For me it was the most comfortable way. You have phone with you at all times.

Whether you buy one or rent it or whatever , cellular phones are more convenient but a call from a calling shop (and there are lots) like Codetel, or Turitel are cheaper. 1/2 the time they don't get the amount right, but it is dirt cheap.
