See Alberto's brother for insurance. I paid 27k for a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo with full coverage. Seemed high at the time but low now when I speak to others.

Just cost us RD$51,000 for a 2002 Pathfinder. Full coverage, RD$8,500 deduction and RD$900,000+ payout in case of a total loss.

Make sure you keep your insurance up to date as the payout value will change, especially with the change in exchange rate.

Use a broker, try and avoid dealing directly with the insurance company.
You will always get better service and rate using a broker.

Make sure you use a reputable and well known company for insurance.

Default There are two options

1) Go the low road and get the bare minimum--"Seguro de Ley" and get it from Union de Seguros or Seguros Patria. Everyone hates them since that hardly ever pay out.

2) Go the high road and get full coverage with Universal. They pay and they protect.

Whilst I appreciate it is simple to get answers from this notice board & that the advice is generally of sound nature & could put you in touch with good people, the best bet for you is to get out there into Sosua & ask the questions direct to the insurance brokers/companies concerned! Obviously you will not take the first quote given you & obviously you will source the reputation of the insurance companies as well as their cost, but "slogging the streets" & talking to the peole is the best way for you to go now after the information you have gleaned from here.

Try it ....... you will be surprised at the success you will achieve!! - Grahame.

I was just quoted $1160 by Sabine Mertes for Banco Popular. New 2005 Diahatsu Terios, full coverage. She tells me that there are cheaper companies, but Popular is most reliable. Deductable is 1.5% of value of the car. How does that sound? - D

Please read my post above! It gives the names of who to deal with.

Danny confirmed my take on Universal (POopular)

Piece of cake!
