La Romana/Santana or Punta Cana

Does anyone have any info on the La Romana area, and the Santana Beach Club in particular? Also the Punta Cana area and the Fiesta Palace in particular. I'm going for my first trip to DR and would like info. I've seen both good and bad reviews on each. I understand that PC is supposed to have the best beach, but La Romana is closer to some attractions like Saona Island. I've seen that the beach isn't the best at the Santana; does anyone know how far you have to go to get to a good beach from that resort? Anyone have info on the VIP package at the Santana? And how about the resort sharing at the Fiesta Palace.

Any other interesting or informative information on other subjects would be appreciated also.
