Default Playa Dorada Complex?

I've noticed some A.I. hotels advertising that they are located in this complex - like it's "good" thing. I invision this to be some sort of private, gated, community where locals are not allowed to enter, other than to work in the hotels; and where all attractions are a good distance away. Is this a correct assumption of this place. I'd like to get some feed-back from anyone who has stayed there.

I found a site that shows the whole complex. It's between Puerto Plata and Sosua. Yes it's a gated community but not sure if outsiders are allowed into the discos but vistors can buy a day pass.

Default Locals allowed :)

Alot of my friends that are locals visit the mall, cine and discos in the complex. At Crazy moon locals don't pay an entrance fee on friday ( or whatever day they charge). Well at least my friends didn't. I on the other hand had to.

Me and my friends (who are mostly Dominican) have never been charged to go into Crazy Moon, and I have been there about 10 times.

And yes you are right. They do allow locals in...they come for the restaruants and movie theaters too. I don't think they shop there all that much, because you can get better deals elsewhere. But I know some of my Dominican friends go there to get their pictures developed and such.

And depends when you go to Crazy Moon, but often there seem to be more locals then ppl from other countries.(which I think is a good thing!)

Hi,

Locals are allowed to enter the complex, which has discos, casinos and cimema and as well a mall. They are not permitted to enter the hotel unless they are paying for a room or that they have a day pass which cost like 20 us dollars half day.

I could be wrong..but last I heard I believe it was around $40US...cuz the exchange rate is so poor. Which is a fair amount for a half day or half evening at a resort. And that half day pass does not allow you to go in the rooms! Just use the buffet, pools, drinks and whatever entertainment is avaliblet there.

I have worked at both POP Village and Playa Naco which are in the Playa Dorada complex.
Yes, Dominicans are allowed within the gates to shop, eat, go to the discos, or go to the beach. Outside taxis (like Techni-taxi etc) were not allowed to come in when I worked there, but that may have changed since.
Like any AI, in a gated area or not, they do not allow Dominicans to freely roam about their individual properties without passes.
When I worked for POP Village and wanted to go in to visit my Canadian co-workers when I was off duty, I had to stop at the gate and get permission to enter the property - and I am Canadian and I worked there. Some resorts are more relaxed, some are more strict - just depends on which one you are visiting.
Hope that answers your question.
Marlie
P.S. Anna - also thanks from me for that website, I too did not know it existed.

Hey raphster, take at look at this link--there might be some helpful info for you there. *(courtesy of the link that Anna first provided--I just clicked on activities and then went to the playa dorada golf website)
