No kidding! I had a layover several years ago in Heathrow flying from Dublin back to NY. It was New Years Day and I was hungover and it was the biggest, most confusing airport I have ever been inside of. Anyway, I am happy you are enjoying your trip. Have fun.

I predict that AZB will get legally married and may never return to the DR. Or he'll get married, make money then bring his new wife over.

Or he will get tired of masterbating to pornos and come back home to his DR wives. The only action he will get in Pakistan or Abu Dhabi is with a camel.

My bet is that he'll 'marry money'. I'm sure where he is, perhaps he may just be considered a 'good catch'! enjoy AZB!

Unhappy I already miss santiago

Ok folks, I must admit, I miss santiago already. This country is just too organized for my taste ex: lights 24 hrs, clean wide roads without potholes, no one takes any bribes, police out number civilians, no crimes, everyone is rich (natives), people dress funny, everyone is a muslim (strict muslims, at least in abu dhabi), everyone has a servent (s) a driver and a mercedes in the garage. No conchos and no visible putas in the streets.
Now I heard Dubai is very different. I will go there next week for a few days.
There is money here, lots of it but it seems to get that money, one has to pay a price. If I get a job here, I must act like a good muslim. I cannot be seen drinking alcohol or be seen coming out of a hotel with a russian girl. Everyone is married and lives in peace. No loud music or any kind of music in cars or houses in abu dhabi. Its very quiet here. Maybe its just that my host is a strict muslim and only is showing me places only suitable to his taste.
In Dubai I will stay in a hotel owned by an indian. He sounds cool on the phone and he is an old friend of my uncle in NY. My uncle is no angel so i don't expect him to be one.
I was supposed to find work and also check out the offer that was offered to me a few months back in dubai. Now I feel this place may not be for me as dubai is a growing world class city. traffic jams can last 1 1/2 hrs each way. Prices are going up and so is the real estate. The laws pertaining to work visa is very strict. I can only work with the employer who has sponsored me and he is the only one who decides my future in this country. If I leave the job, I get deported, if I change the job, my work visa becomes void. if I own a company, 50% share / partnership must be owned by a local. Then we have chiropractic association in dubai and everyone has to pass a test to work as a medical professional. Things are not so easy as I thought originally. Anyway, its been only day # 2 here. I am still getting over my jet lag. I woke up at 5am this morning. I know I will become a zombie by 3pm.
So folks, I miss DR, I miss my santiago and I want to come back. I miss the black outs, the slow concho traffic, the tasteless food and most of all, I miss my wives and friends.
stay tuned for more updates.

well enjoy the land of plenty AZB. the shrimp, salmon and trout are all farmed products grown in huge ponds or netted "ponds" in lakes and oceans. they are fed chicken and cow manure, among other things. shrimp from Thailand is very cheap and full of heavy metals. they are even fed dyes so you can appreciate their fine colour.

you are right about the prosperous Chinese merchants. that is because the US and Canada offer residency to those with capital to invest. around 100-250K minimum. many of the shops are just lost capital as they will not turn a profit. the Chinese and other immigrants view this as a cost to getting in to the US and Canada.

Gregg

PS
what they didn't tell you is that if you lived there you'd we working 60 hours a week, along with your spouse(s) to pay for all that. there is a huge hidden tax system in place to finance the big wide roads and things. your impressions of the US are like ours when going to the DR...you are only seeing the great "vacation" moments.

You would be surprised to know that this country is a tax free port. No income tax and no sales tax. Prices of food and durable good / electronic items are cheaper than in USA. professional folks work minimum numbers of hours, the labor class get shafted (just like in many countries). A typical doctor works 9-1pm then 4-7 or even 9pm. My friend only works till 2pm and starts at 8am. He gets friday and saturday off and any other day off as well if he feels like not working. The company pays his home rent (3 thousand dollars / month) gasoline and a driver. He has 3 maids who do everything in the house.
I just took a tour of the city, all I can say is that the skyline of abu dhabi will impress anyone from any country. They are building a new hotel which seems more like a royal palace than anything else. It should be rated at 6 star if 7 star rating has not been set yet. The true moving buldozer behind this country's economy is "black gold" (petrol). This country was nothing in the early 60's, no one had even heard the name of this place anywhere in the region. The discovery and pumping and refining of the black gold has changed the map of this region forever. There is so much money in this region that the government doesn't know what to do with it. When you see the wealth the oil has generated for the people here, then you will slowly realize why the bush admistration was so eager to liberate Iraq (2nd largest oil reserve in the world); even if it meant blowing up all the civilians with a 10,000 lbs bomb. I mean, if the bush administration was so eager to look after the welfare of supressed human beings around the world, then what is preventing them from liberating cubans from castro or even helping haitians? Wait, no oil there.
Getting back to original train of thought.
Most working folks in this country are foreigners, pakistanis, indians, bungladeshi, other arab country labor force and even african employees. No foreigner can obtain nationality of this country even if they were born here. No foreigner can buy property here unless a local is in partnership. If you open up a company / business, a local has to be a partner. Working visa is very difficult to obtain. There are many other restrictions imposed on foreigners. If you are israeli, don't even bother applying for anything here.
The men dress in typical arab atire, dress down to their feet and head covered with that arab acarf and a black ring on top to ancher it in place. It seems quiet elegant once you get used to seeing it everywhere. The women wear burkhas (black gown type cover over their clothes) many women expose their face but cover their hair, some only wear the burkha as a symbol but expose thei whole head. Then side by side you may see a liberal arab woman who us dressed in a low cut sexy tight jean and a tiny blouse. I must admit, these women have found a way to look extremely attractive even in their black custom made burkhas. They seem extremely exotic when you see their slim curvy bodies undulating in the black burkha, high heels underneith and often bright green or light grey eyes. I bet some of these women would put miss universe to shame if they were to compete in the open. The few women who don't cover their face will stun you with their exotic beauty. Arab women are extremely beautiful and look even more stunning in their islamic fashionable dresses. These women are very proud to dress the way they do and they look very attractive in them. Many foreign western women also were seen dressed in traditional arab clothes. I bet if western women would see some of the islamic fashion, they will surely stack up the closets if they had the bodies to fit in to them. Seeing some of the fatties in sosua beach, I would recommend that USA and canada should pass a law to obligate some of these women to dress in burkhas 24 hrs/ day in public places.
You will find people from all over the middle east, no wonder the cream of the crop of women come to live in United arab emerates (abu dhabi, dubai etc). These rich arabs have it made.
Ok for women interest:
All of you sankie lovers would be surprised to know that arab men in general in this country are quite handsome. They are strong looking and proud. many drive mercedes and wear clean arab clothes, often very expensive. These men are proud of their country and know how to treat women right. Too bad they may not marry any other woman unless she is muslim. They do have the luxury of hiring russian super models for a night's entertainment, but at the end of the day, they go back to their wives. I had seen many strong young men in the marina mall who were tall and extremely handsome. Most wear typical arab white dress with their heads covered. They all have close trimmed neatly groomed beard and mustashe. I would imagine most of you sankie loving tourists will go nuts over these men.
See ya all.

i was replying to your US-based observations. can't comment on the trade-offs involved in living in Abu Dhabi. i once found a mountain top that was just perfect for living...but i was all by myself.

enjoy your travels man!

Default Give me a call in Dubai

If you get down to Dubai, give me a ring on mobile 735.9268. I'm off to Baghdad but just for a day. Don't even put AbuD in same universe as DXB friend....this place you'll like. Except that it's over flowing with Brit expats, and their blonde wives and bratty kids.

Best, Bill
