Hi Charo

Please be more specific. Are you looking to stay at a resort all-inclusive, or in La Romana town? Any specific considerations?

Hi, thanks for answering. Been to Punta Cana MANY times, looking to change it up a little. We're pretty much looking for an AI, with some good nightlife, or is it more of a family oriented place. Thanks for the help!!!

I don't know what sort of night life you are looking for, but there's not much for the tourists in La Romana. There are several discos in town, but they are geared much more toward the local crowd.

As far as AIs in La Romana? I think the Casa de Campo resort has an AI option and it is very nice, but very expensive.

Not much night life there to speak of. There is a Disco (Genesis? I think?) at Altos de Chavon which is a short drive from the hotel... very nice on the weekends, party doesn't start until waaaay late, though.

Maybe you should look into Bayahibe about 20 or 30 minutes away? There are several AIs there, beautiful beach, and I think you'll find more of what you are looking for. You can always head into La Romana for a day trip...

www.vivaresorts.com has 2 hotels (Dominicus Beach, and Dominicus Palace) there that always seem to be busy when I am down that way. There are SEVERAL other hotels in Bayahibe, but I don't know the names off the top of my head. Do a google search and I'm sure you'll get the rest of the names.

Good luck.

Tim

Thanks Tim, I really appreciate it! Someone I met in PC last year told me about the hotel they stayed at and it sounded pretty cool, just can't remember the name. He said it was 2 hotels next to each other and they parties all day into night, and the workers and some locals were allowed throughout the hotel to hang out, do you know anything about this? Or do you think we should stick to PC? Thanks for all your help!!

That sounds a lot like the Viva Dominicus Beach and Palace. The two hotels are on adjoining properties and the guests are free to mingle betwixt the two.

Palace is nicer. Beach is more fun. Essentially the same place, though.

(That being said, the other hotels aren't very far apart either... but guests aren't allowed to wander between them.)

Employees are always allowed to mingle with the guests (especially the animation crew). As far as non-employee locals... only if they sneak in. Not very likely.

These hotels are very heavily visited by Italian tourists who, in my humble opinion, really make it a fun place. They do tend to party all day and all night.

I have no knowledge of Punta Cana so can't give you a fair comparison at all.

(Sorry if my posts read like an ad for Viva, but those are the ones I have the most experience with. By all means, check out the others, read the reviews here on DR1, etc.)

Thumbs up AI's in La Romana

Yes, they have lots of All-inclusive resorts in La Romana. As other posters have mentioned, most of them are in the Bayahibe area. Of those, I know the Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus is a really nice one. Also, Sunscape Casa del Mar.

I have been to the Canoa Coral but we had a bad brush with management there and they were very unsympathetic, so I am unable to recommened them to anyone.

And don't forget about the Santana Beach Resort. I have never been there, only passed it on the road, but they always get great reviews and they have a casino on-site. I think its also a little more economical than most of the Bayahibe resorts, but still nice (as is Sunscape.)

cheapcaribbean.com often has good deals to a number of these hotels.
