Look up the thread posted by Robert: "Damajagua Falls" --may be one of the best ever.
Then look up the posts by "Sliver Ghost" and "Gray Ghost" --same guy-- and read about what he did to keep himself busy.
Cofresí is where Ocean World is located, so that is a "don't miss" activity.
If you talk to the people there at the hotel, you can figure out how to use the local public transportation system to get into town (Puerto Plata) and on to Sosua and Cabarete.( It would probably cost about RD$30.00 pesos to go from Cofresí to Cabarete by 'guagua' vs several hundred pesos by taxi..the locals up there can fill you in on actual pricing) You could even get down to Santiago and walk around a city that is not remotely into tourism, and get a feel for life in the "slow" lane....
Of course, you will be made welcome where ever you go....
