Default Nice hotel in SD and around, does it exist?

I am trying to find a nice hotel in SD or the surrounding. I'm having a hard time to find a really nice hotel.

Can anyone recommend me one? I have looked at the Hamaca (bad reviews), Sofitel (not enough kid friendly place), Costa Caribe (bad reviews)

Would my kids get bored at the El Embajador?

If I look at hotels in La Romana, should I expect a 2 hour drive to get there? Some people say 1h, 1.5h, 2h...

Thanks!

Embajador should be fine, they have a pool and gardens and you are within walking distance of the Parque Mirador and the Bella Vista Mall which has a multi screen cinema. Dominican Fiesta would also fulfil these criteria. Depending on how old the children are we can give you more information on what the city has to offer them.

Fly into La Romana and stay @ Casa de Campo.
I am told they have excellent children's programs.

What exactly are you looking for? A first rate hotel with good restaurants or an all-inclusive resort with activities for the kids? How long are you planning to stay?

Thank you for your inputs

We are looking for first rate hotel all-inclusive or not, small boutique hotel or super-large complex. It seems that the only thing I can finds thru Expedia and Travelocity are 2-3 stars hotels...except in La Romana I see Casa de Campo 4 stars...

We cannot fly into La Romana, our plane tickets are already purchased for Santo Domingo. We are going to be in DR for 9 days and have to spend 2 days in Santo Domingo for business. I was thinking of 2 days in SD at El Embajador and the rest at La Romana?

Is the road from SD to La Romana ok to drive with kids, I mean, not too bumpy and too long? We'll probably hire a driver.

I have 2 kids under the age of 5.

If your into glitz, check out the Renaissance Juragua Hotel and Casino. The DRs try at a Las Vegas type resort. Its on the Malecon in SD. Central location in town.

The Juragua is starting to show its age. You may want to look at the new Hilton, which is scheduled to have their "hard" opening on September 8th. I don't know if the Casino will be opened by then.

Agree with Chirimoya. Your two best options are the 1) Embajador and 2) Dominican Fiesta.

Afterwards, there are lots of options in the La Romana in addition to Casa de Campo, which would be the most expensive in the area. See the La Romana/Bayahibe section in the dr1 hotels directory.
