They will calculate your departure tax when you leave, according to the length of time spent in the country, and can verify this info with the date of your arrival stamp. Enjoy!

A search on this topic will provide the answer as this has been a topic frequently discussed. 90 days is only about $20. However it used to be 90 days as standard and it is now only 15, so this is not aimed at catching people as much as a tax.

I believe this is the current scale for departure taxes. It really doesn't escalate much until you stay more than 9 months.

15 days to 3 months: RD$300
3 months to 9 months: RD$500
9 months to 12 months: RD$2000
1 year to 1-1/2 years: RD$3500
1-1/2 year to 2 years: RD$4500
2 years to 2-1/2 years: RD$6000
2-1/2 years to 3 years: RD$8000
3 years - 5 years:RD$12,000
More than 5 years: RD$15,000
(This scale is thanks to a post by Rellosk)

The good news is up to 90 days is just a little over ten bucks. Tip - when you leave have the RD$300 ready so they know that there is no point in trying to shake you down for more.

Default What about 21 days ?

I wonder if they calculate a pro-rata or they just charge RD$300 for 15-90 days.

Also I read some contradictory reports of some people having 15 days written on the back of their tourist card (hence they must pay over that period) and some do not have any specific number of days on the back of their card. I thought the card was valid for 90 days and then after that you pay the fees listed above.

Can anyone who is there right now look at the back of their card and tell us if it mentions 15 days or not (these things chang daily without notice so I would like a latest report.

Thanks,

Thanks,
The old cards were for 90 days. All the new cards are for 15. I am not going to say that somebody (i.e. an airline or tour operator) didn't sell you an old tourist visa card, but based on the date you enter, you are liable for the current fees.
No, they don't prorate the fee. These guys have a hard enough time adding and subtracting, you want them to multiply and divide?

You would wind up getting charged RD$400 if you relied on their math proficiency.
