Starting next week there will be a new law regarding car circulation in the DR. Wednesdays and Thursdays there will be car rotation (all cars), pair and impair will circulate on different days. Don’t know how the Dominicans will respond to this, but something serious has to be done to conserve the gasoline!

Cars with plate numbers ending with odd numbers will be able to circulate on Wednesday for example, and even on Thursday. Rumors has it that the price of gas could go up to RD$200. On Monday there will be a press conference explaining all of this to the public.

Default More fun in paradise with gas and vehicles

As I undestand it, this applies to all vehicles, not just cars.

Even number plates can drive on Wednesdays, Odd Numbers can drive on Thursdays. So far, no change in the other days of the week.

The potential for catching drivers with the wrong plate on just after midnight on Tuesday and Wednesday nights should prove to be interesting. What will be the going rate to be allowed to head home?

What will justify emergency use of a vehicle, if that is allowed on the incorrect day?

The price of gas will certainly go up while the government controls the exchange rate of the peso, so forget about the exchange rate fluctuations that potentially benefitting those with their money foreign currencies ( I thought currency manipulation was not legal according to the IMF?)

We should start a thread with the rate and link to it for the main DR1 page so people would know each day what the exhange rate is.

Wait a minute.................
