Question Barcelo Gran Lina?

I am planning on going to Santo Domingo for Festival de Presidente. Has anyone stayed at the Barcelo Gran Lina? I have seen some mixed reviews on trip advisor but cannot not find anything else. Please advise if you stayed there or know someone that has.

Thanks

Default Barcelo Gran Lina

I stayed there on two occasions ..the hotel is good rather expensive ..they have an excellent restaurant (very European style ) a small bar with live music (at least some days a week )and a small casino you enter via de bar.. It's rather quiet ..

I agree, the hotel is like the Grand Dame of Santo Domingo hotels. In spite of showing it's age it is still very elegant. The restaurant is top notch. Prices are expensive on a DR scale. If you are looking for more activity, I recommend the Juragua.

I found on expedia $55 a night but after taxes and extra guest charge more like $87 dollars a night for 4 people in a room. I think that is pretty good as most hotels in Santo Domingo only allow 2-3 adults per room and are above $100 per night.

I wanted a hotel near el Centro Olimpico and from my searches the Gran Lina is only a 5 min walk.

On one of the reviews in trip advisor it stated a lot of prostitutes in the lobby anyone found this to be a problem?

I just looked at the current rates and it appears that they have finally dropped the rate down to be in line with the current age and condition of the hotel. They are now rated a 2 1/2 star hotel where in the past they were rated 4 stars. Yes, you can expect to be propositioned in the lobby. Not only are the girls working the lobby but the pimps are promoting trips to "fantasy island", wherever that may be.
