Trip to the DR in Dec.
I was told the best time to come to the DR was in December. Because it was more parties and concerts in December. This will be my second trip. I went in October and I am already going back. My first trip, I stayed at the Jarauga, Nice hotel. Spent my six days in the city sight seeing and going out at night. I enjoyed myself. Even though I went by myself, did not no anyone, hablo espanol muy un poco. I can not wait to go.

Hello LD I live in Santo Domingo, you are right, on Dec there are a lot parties around, and free parties in the malecon area, the weather is great too, fresh nights and mornings, and hot day.
Alot Dominicans coming for the chritsmas season so if you come in the half of Dec, come with an extra hands laguage and put part of important stuff that yuo should need if your laguage comes 1,2 or 3 days after you arrive.

Hello. I plan to visit in December too! This will be our first time and I have so many questions. One of the things I want to know about is the customs... for example, what is the dress there? Will our American attire fit in, i.e. capri pants for me, sundresses, sleeveless tops (not braless though). My husband loves to wear shorts, tee shirts and dockers (or boat shoes), but we are smart dressers as well. I love to match everything and we will try to limit our wardrobe (especially me), but want to be sure we cover all bases. We enjoy sightseeing, touring shopping, excursions, and Night Life! Queremos bailar! La Guacara Taina is on "27 things not to miss" list. Do you recommend it? Please tell me everything! We'll be there for two weeks! Thanks for anything that you can share with me. We would enjoy fitting in into the culture. (I am able to speak and understand spanish but get intimidated very easily. Also, my sentence structure is not perfect, but I believe others are able to understand me.
Muchisimas gracias!

Hi Travelociry, I have been at the airport sometimes, sometimes waiting for family others for friends, I never had seem people using shorts, with your capri and sleeveless tops wont be problems. For your husband is fine a T-shirt and pants with long legs. If you call your airline maybe they could clarify the case. And don´t forget the tips that I posted, a lot Dominicans coming on Dec. so you know.

Well I kind of disagree with all of you guys. I believe that one can visit the Dominican Republic at any time and have plenty of fun. Christmas is good because its not that hot and sticky like the summer. The Christmas spirit gives the Dominican republic an extra fine touch.

Hello and thank you for the information. When you say that alot of Dominicans are coming for Christmas, where are they coming from. I am just courious. We will be staying in San Pedro de Macoris at the Playa Real Beach Resort and visiting Santo Domingo and other places during our stay. We will also stay at Melia Caribe Tropical in Punta Cana. Are the coming to do shopping for Christmas or for vacation? We are so excited about coming to the DR and hope to meet some nice people. We love to dance and tour and enjoy friendly people. We are in our late 40s. Can you suggest any dance places for us to go to? Thank you.

Good morning, Dominicans are coming allover, but the most are coming from New York, Miami, Puerto Rico, and they came for chritsmas vacations, a cousin of mine come from NY on Dec. 23th, so the airport for this time is very active.
For Shoping here in Santo Domingo there are so many stores and Comercial Centers that you will enjoy to visit.
For Dance you said that you are in your last 40s so I dont know what kind of music do you prefer, a lot people love to go to Guacara Taina, is a Disco in a cave in Santo Domingo

LUGGAGE, the guy meant "luggage"
What he meant was to pack essentials in your carry on, 'cause your bags might not make it during the Christmas rush. Tens of thousands of Dominican return "home" for the holidays.
There is a US$1500 dollar duty free limit for gifts during this season and Dominicans can make $5000 look like $1500!!
Dress code: Santo Domingo is a very fashion conscious city. The places you want to go are dress coded and shorts, sandals, T-Shirts (except Calvin Kline on you) are OUT. "Sun dresses" are also out of tune with the local "in crowd" ...Dress properly, as if you were going out in your home town...Unless you are trailer park white trash...(No, I don't mean to suggest that you are or even might be, just a harsh example) No ties unless you are going to the National Theater and then you can pack your Oscar de ls Renta Gown and the tuxedo...
At the beach, be touristy and do your thing. In the city, be like you were in NYC or Atlanta or Miami....

Thanks, Riravaga. I've read about the club in a cave (guatara taina). We love salsa, merengue, and all the other dances. Our favorite is salsa.

HB - when you say sandals, do you mean ALL sandals? I mean, I have several pairs of shoes, some sandals are flat, some have heels, some are casual, some are dressy, and some are formal. Please explain. Thanks!
