Default Presidente

It looks like Presidente is intent on increasing their presence in the US. I just returned from Southern Florida where I heard a Presidente beer commercial on the radio. (I wish I could remember their slogan, but the commercial caught me off-guard).

Although the beers been available in the US for a while, it's the first time I've seen or heard any advertisement for it.

I just noticed I posted this in the wrong forum, if someone could move to the General forum, I would appreciate it.

Thumbs up

We haven't heard the commercials here in the Sarasota/Bradenton area, but like you said, Presidente is found in the local supermarkets, mainly Sweetbay. All my fla friends that I have shared the beer with have been converts. The latest is a friend from Philadelphia who went back to PA, and stocked his refrigerator. This beer is goooooooooooooood.

Don't see or hear anything in NYC yet, where Heineken & Corona is ruling the market. Only Dominican restaurants, bars and discos carry Presidente, other than the few bodegas.

Maybe its just me but when i buy presidente here in the states, it just doesn't taste the same. Also the alcohol content is lower. So therefore, I don't buy it here. I always make sure to bring home some grandes from my trips. Has anyone else noticed the taste difference??

Try a blind taste test. I'd be willing to bet that you couldn't pick out the Presidente sold in the DR from that sold in the US.

Regarding the alcohol content I believe it's the same. Years ago when they first starting importing Presidente, it was a lower alcohol content. (I believe there were laws in the US that beer couldn't contain more than a certain percentage of alcohol). Some years back they changed the law.

You might be right rellosk. Perhaps its the environment of being in the DR that seems to make it taste better. Although all of my Dominican York friends say the same thing about it tasting diferent.

NO KIDDING! this is a no brainer hands down....actually guys i have heard a few Presidente commercials on NYC radio a couple of times so they are at least trying to expand. but it is not on the same level as 'larger' imports like heineken or corona....but whatever, i still love the beer.
I'm headed to DR on monday NOV 21st for the whole week!
I'll be at Boca Chica with my brother and cousin to relax and chill. I plan on doing a ton of driving and mingling with the locals and of course a LOT of Presidente drinking!
Anyone know of any PATRONALES going on that week and location? I will be in Boca Chica, Juan Dolio, Santo Domingo, San Cristobal, Yaguate and Najayo. that oughtta cover it! LOL

It does taste different. The one sold in the United States is not as bitter.
