Default Poetry - do you have one about the DR?

Dominican Republic - posted many years ago - time to post again

I really had no intention
Of going back so many times,
But ever since that first visit
The country has been on my mind.

The Dominican Republic
Keeps calling me back twice a year.
The scenery is beautiful
But it's the people I hold dear.

The beaches are magnificent.
The countryside is very green.
The mountains and the plantations
To all these places I have been.

Do not just stay on a resort
And never try to venture out.
The countryside and villages
Are what the place is all about.

Be sure to talk to the locals
As much as you possibly can.
After meeting the DR people,
You will truly become a fan.

The country can be contagious.
The Merengue is lots of fun.
The nightlife is never-ending,
And there is always lots of sun.

Cerveza and rum flow plenty
No matter where you go.
The smiling faces of locals
Will warm even the coldest soul.

Twice a year to this place I go
To see friends and enjoy the view.
Someday I shall stay much longer
And become part of the DR too.

Charlielyn

I don´t have a poem about DR, but I can give you the poem of a song by Juan Lockward. A poem that every person, young or old, in Puerto Plata knows by heart.
Poza del Castillo is on the Malecon here in Puerto Plata.

Poza del Castillo
Brisas que pasaron
años juveniles,
que me abandonaron
alegres mañanas
de sal y de sol
que se han escondido
quizás, en un caracol
ya no eres la misma
ni yo soy el mismo
tus aguas se agotan
y me agoto yo
porque ya los años
fueron transcurriendo
y se fue perdiendo
el buen tiempo que pasó
Poza del Castillo
nunca han de volver
los dulces momentos
que en tus aquas yo pasé

Can't believe that more DR lovers haven't compossed poems. Surely there is some talent out there?

I think this poem gives the Vogons a run for their money though.

I'll take that as a compliment Rick. Thanks.

OK. Not a big Douglas Adams fan I take it.
