Default Beach Towels

Weird question, but hear me out. Is there anywhere around SDQ to buy beach-size towels. Don't want to fill the luggage with towels. Want to buy them there & leave behind. Arriving SDQ driving to Las Terrenas. Anywhere along the way to make this purchase? Also, cheapest place to buy Gin & Tequila (Really looking forward to that Gin & Tonic or Margarita on the beach). Is it possible to buy from the Duty Free in SDQ upon entry, or only upon exit? Thanks, GG

If you need to drive from SDQ to Las Terrenas on arrival, i wouldn't recommend stopping to shop for beach towels in Santo Domingo unless one of the shops at the airport has them. Of course they would be overpriced there, but the convenience may be worth it. You will definately be able to buy them in Las Terrenas, although price may not be the best there either, since it is a tourist area. Your trip should take you through Nagua, and at that point you will be only about an hour or so from LT, so if you are on schedule and think you have time to stop, I think you could get a better deal there, but I couldn't tell you the name of a store.

As far as booze is concerned, they sell it at the supermercados, and you should get a better price there than at the duty-free.

Best bet for buying everything is to stop at the Carrefour hypermarket which is on the road out of Santo Domingo, so that you don't waste time driving around the city (unless you plan to spend any time there).

Carrefour is on km 10 of the Duarte highway coming out of the city, on the right side of the road. If you miss Carrefour, when you reach San Francisco de Macoris there is a La Sirena megastore as you leave the city, also on the right hand side, on the main road to Nagua, which is difficult to miss.

Thanks for the info. I'll try one of these. Not that it should matter for either of these recommendations, but I should have mentioned that I'm planning on driving the "Maimon, Cotui, Nagua" route. Flight arrival is scheduled for 1:20pm so we should be on the way out of SDQ by 2:30 pm which should leave enough time for a quick shopping spree along the way. Thanks again, GG
