Taxi from Santo Domingo to Punta Cana

Will be traveling to DR for the 1st time in a few weeks and the way the flights happened to work out and the hotel...the only real option was to fly into SD.

We called our hotel and asked best course of action: bus or rental car. The hotel mentioned that they would call a taxi company they deal with all the time to do this exact trip and have us picked up at the airport.

My question is how much should I expect this to cost? They said to call back a few days before our arrival to get a quote from them. After reading on the forums about driving and bus trips, just was wondering what the best option would be.

The bus is cheaper but can be a logistical and stressful nightmare for a 1st timer because you have to travel ( 1/2- 1 hr) from the airport to Santo Domingo to acquire the express bus and that part of the trip will cost at least US$ 25-30. The buses depart at 7 & 10 am and 2 & 4 pm. The fares are about RD$ 230 pp and travel time is 3.5 - 4 hrs. Taxis direct from Las Americas airport to Punta Cana will cost about US$ 135 for up to 4-5 people travel time is about 3 - 3.5 hours.

Note: The hotel may have a rate with a taxi co - but get it in writing.

If you are arriving during late afternoon - a taxi is your best option.
