I know that it is a bit early but we've booked Royal Caribbean's first cruise out of Santo Domingo on 16th December 2007.

Can anyone recommend a hotel to stay in the night before and where to stay for 10-14 days after. We have four adults and an 8 year old.

The Colonial Zone (historic centre) and the Malecón (modern seafront avenue) are both near the cruise terminal - the Hostal Nicolas de Ovando on Calle las Damas is a very elegant, recently restored hotel on the oldest European street in the New World. It also happens to be walking distance from the cruise terminal. More modern style hotels like the Jaragua are on the Malecón.
