I went for one week in August 2006. It's a lovely resort, immaculate grounds, three pools, swim-up bar with interesting characters from the UK perched on the seats, nightly entertainment, pool activities, casino, spa with couples massage, facials, sunburn treatments, manicures etc. tennis, nice beach, gym, disco, karoke bar, merengue band that plays in the "main street." They have tours, trips to other beaches, the Gri Gri lagoon near the town of Gaspar Hernandez. If you go for two weeks, sometimes they offer a deal where you can go to Santiago or somewhere else for the other week. Plenty to eat and drink, Italian, seafood, Mexican, Domincan and North American. Two a la carte restaurants, one giant buffet restaurant, and a fastfood restaurant. Dress up at night (sharp casual). Some men were turned away at dinner for their informal dress. They staff are very nice and helpful. The rooms are clean, air conditioned. If you expect to see the Dominican Republic however, you'll have to get out of the resort. You're a bit isolated there. I brought tons of mosquito repellent with me and I didn't really need it. I think they spray the entire area. My daughter got sick for two days however and I'm not sure what hit her. People were very kind and made her different remedies - bombas! Balanced the electrolytes. Drink only bottled water, including when you brush your teeth. Sometimes if you're half in the bag, you forget.... ) and you swallow the water. Bring lomotil or imodium with you. If you have any more questions, PM me. If you look in Trip Reports or do a search you'll find more mention of this Spanish-owned resort.

Default BP rio San Juan

margaret

since you were at the BP Rio San Juan, the place was closed due to a noro virus and then they had a fire.

It is scheduled to reopen around November 1st.

Smile BP San Juan

Between this thread and other ones I have been to concerning this AI, I don't know. We have been to Cuba once and the DR 4 times. First time was great the next three something was always going on with the resort right up to just before we left on holidays.

In SK we have fire, West Nile disease, grasshoppers in stead of locust. So if the walls come tumbling down let me know, other then that we shall grin and bear it and leave for holidays on time and hope for the best.
