Default coins

Has the situation with the lack of coins for change been resolved or should I still expect chiclets as change?
Thanks
Stevi

Sadly no!

If you have a RD$2,000 peso note, you're in trouble. Recently, i tried to buy something in the large stationery shop in plaza central (sto dgo) for around RD$80, and tried to pay with RD$500, but they refused! After living here for 6months, i can say that this is by far the most irritating thing about this country.

If you have a car just go to any gas station and put 400rd or any figure you want. Give the 2,000rd note and you will have change. You can change five by filling up at five stations. I have no problem with having a ton of change.

with those prices :

Tarifas Combustibles
Gasolina Premium: 207.10
Gasolina regular 197.40
Gasoil / Diésel regular 193.30
Gas Subsidiado 69.10
Gas No Subsidiado 90.86

I think he need to put the $ 2000. to set the meter to the half position.

Most businesses now have change. 5 peso coins are out there big time. I've been told that the 10 & 25's are on the boat headed for the DR. Must be there by now. By middle/end of July the problem should be solved. Unless someone's electronic "dream" is in the making. LOL

To be fair, i have noticed a lot of new money actually. There seems to have been a new batch of 10s, 5s and 50notes in recent weeks. I've discovered that when withdrawing from cashpoints, the technique is to go for $1,900 instead of $2,000. This generally avoids the $2,000 peso note problem.
