Default vaccinations for DR

I should get an award for so many darn questions ... ok maybe not

Anyway - here goes. Besides checking the CDC site or searching info online concerning travel medicine, it always seems better to ask those on the ground.

I'm only going to be in DR for about 2 weeks. With that in mind, what shots would one recommend?

hepa A, typhoid, etc - what about hepa B???

Gracias y'all.

Make sure your routine vaccinations are up to date. Hep A, B and Typhoid are recommended.

The Yellow fever vaccination is not required for the DR.

Many people, including UK Pharmacists, recommend taking vitamin B12 to avoid mosquito bites. Aparantly it alters the body smell (from a bug point of view) and they leave you alone. I know some people that have had success with this!

I've heard that vegetarians especially should boost their B12 levels for this reason but based on personal experience I haven't noticed it making that much of a difference.

Keep eating Marmite anyway.

Ok - cool. Luckily, I have the Tetanus/diptheria, typhoid, and hepa A shots current so I'm ok there. hepa B? I wasn't able to get around to that one. I figure since I'm only going for 2 weeks I should be ok. I'll try to be careful.

I promise I'll get the hepa B shots b4 my next sojourn )

B12 eh? I like that one - never heard of that one before. I try to pop a multi-vitamin fairly regularly anyways.

MARMITE ... what the heck is that??

It's the devils food!!!! LOL
Just kidding! It's, I believe, a yeast extract type thing but you either LOVE it or HATE it and there is NO middle ground. It's like Bovril or Vegimite if you're familiar with either of those.

I think you are a bit late for most injections if you are going in two weeks however this what we were recommended:-

Typhoid *Vaccination sometimes recommended 10 days before travel

Hepatitis A Vaccination recommended 2 weeks before travel

Diphtheria Vaccination recommended 3 months before travel

Tuberculosis *Vaccination sometimes recommended 3 months before travel

Hepatitis B *Vaccination sometimes recommended 2 months before travel

Rabies *Vaccination sometimes recommended 1 month before travel

Meningococcal meningitis
Not required

Yellow fever
Not required

Japanese B encephalitis
Not required

Tick-borne encephalitis
Not required

Hope these help.

Tropical Regards
Reidy
