Default Cruises from DR in 2009-2010?????

Every year when in the DR, we take a cruise out of Santo Domingo. However this year my searches for a cruise are all showing that there are no cruise line sailling from RD, except one from La Romana on a very expensive cruise.
Does anyone have knowledge of cruises that I might have overlooked in my search???

I understand that Royal Caribbean will not be sailing from Santo Domingo in 2010 and if you check out their website you wont find any listings for it, great shame!

It is too bad that they aren't currently sailing out of Santo Domingo. Does anyone know why they stopped? The first year here in the DR they used one of their smaller ships and I had understood that since it was successful, they were going to bring even a bigger one the following year.

I certainly don't know for sure but success in a poor economy might be measured differently than in a more robust one. Last year's success may be a failure when analyzed this year.

Thank you.

I guess that the easiest now would be to fly with Jet Blue to either Fort Lauderdale or to Puerto Rico and hop on a ship from there. Really too bad it was so nice to start from DR .

the ship jumping may have had something to do with the amount of traffic, If I remember correctly when they first started they were taking care of disembarkment visa's but after the ship jumping every one was on their own. this may have hurt the volume

Lisa I do not quite understand your post either, do you mean that Royal Caribean had problems with the garbage floating in the port????
If it is that I do understand and agree with them, last year it was so awefull the garbage in the Santo Domingo port that I would agree that Cruise ships would not want their passengers to deal with that. I have cruised all the ports in the Caribean and SD is the most dirty.

I seem to recall that when the cruising from SD started that a number of Dominican Passengers didn't return to the ship in a foreign port (i.e. - jumped ship). Shortly after Dominican passengers were denied disembarkation rights in some ports, I believe. I'm going from memory so I don't claim to necessarily remember the details 100%.
