Default Bahia Maimon

Saludos!

I just returned from a 7 day stay at the Riu Bachata Hotel at Bahia Maimon. It is located about 15 minutes west of Puerto Plata and about 30 minutes west of the airport.

What stands out most is the very scenic beach. The backdrop includes mountains and a Fiji Islands type of verdant rock/butte formation. The sand is not as white and the water is not as crystalline as other areas in the DR, but it is still very nice.
There are some rocky areas buy also lots of sandy spots which offer good swimming. There are many sea grape trees and palm trees to give enough shade to those who desire it.

One side of the resort has the beach which is shared by the 3 Riu resorts and you can use the facilities of any of them. The only restrictions were that dinner had to be eaten at the resort that you were registered at, and towels had to be obtained there as well.
The other side has the bay which is very tranquil and has the water sports. The bay is situated closer to the Riu Bachata Hotel.
Also near the Bachata is a Gazebo which has a great view of the beach, the bay, and is a romantic setting to watch the sunset.

The disco was very good. Each hotel had several pools and all were beautiful. My favorites were the Bachata and the Mambo.

The rooms were very nice and were stocked with soda, beer, water, and 4 different types of alcohol. It was all restocked every 2 days. This was all for no extra charge!-I had to ask twice before I could believe it.

One day I visited the town of Maimon. There was not much to see as far as Dominican towns go, but the people were friendly. The beach was not nice because of some garbage strewn around.

In summary, the hotel's food, service, landscape, rooms, and drinks were all excellent.
I would definitely return.

I have posted some photos from this trip on my page on the DR1 Media Gallery section.
