Clip and BRAITHWAITE, Dominicanscottie is a for real guy, he has no reason to make up such a story.

See even Eddy knows the guy in the story.

Smooches...Clip.
Clipped wing,

How are you? Hopefully fine! Glad you enjoyed my story, it was meant to be entertaining yet it really did happen as told. I live here (North Coast of the Dominican Republic) and many people on this message board personally know me. I would never in a million years BS anyone and as much as you do not believe this story (that is your opinion) it is true. I decided to share it with tourists and ex-pats to enlighten them that when bringing friends and associates down from your hometown (wherever it may be) to make sure you know these people well. Todd, (the person in question) suffered a personality breakdown in the three days he was in Sosua.

As to the term "smooches"? I am a 45 year old straight male and do not understand such an intimate remark unless you are an attractive and young female already known to me.

As to my connections? That's nobody's business! However perhaps one day you might need a friend such as I if you were to become entangled in some mess that you cannot get out. I certainly do not need to attempt to convince you or anyone else to this fact. As I mentioned before in past posts. I have lived in the Puerto Plata area since 1994, currently have numerous businesses and enjoy as many connections.

Take care and enjoy the DR!

Scotty

P.S. I enjoyed the post & am looking forward to more.

It is called American Airlines. They charge you for the headset and also for extra drinks.

There ya go....thanks for adding your reply!

2 bucks for head phones, you get to keep them. 4 bucks for a can of beer or mixed drink, you get to keep the can if you like. Rubber chicken or steak with rice... included with the fare, you get to keep your heartburn! You are required to clap when the plane lands, compliments of the your Dominican co-passengers. Hurray!!!!!

This was exactly what I tried to do for Todd. He completely lost his mind and suffered from culture shock and a horrific personality disorder that I never knew he had. I had to ask him to leave and ended up bringing him back to the airport but not before he completely destroyed our friendship by blaming me for everything that went wrong. He was a complete moron and wins the "Stupid, nasty, arrogant gringo" award.

Default source of "gringo"

Being of Irish descent, I have to take issue with the fairly accurate discussion of the source of the term "gringo". It was in the Mexican-American War. However, it was not the color of the uniforms.

The majority of the cannon fodder for that war were Irish immigrants, fresh off the boats in New York. They were drafted and sent directly to the battle field. Most native americans (ie previous mostly English immigrants) felt it was the best way to get rid of them. Many ended up in prisoner of war camps in Mexico. There they tended to sing to pass the time. The favorite tune was "Green Grows the Laurel", a favorite folk tune of the Irish at that time. Green Grows turned into Gringos.

It is a mildly perjorative term, about like honkey, or wop. I am a gringo, ie an anglo-american, however, I hope I am not like the one you hosted in DR. Anyway, I don't take offense at the term.

Default I believe!

Hi. I live at Condos Dominicanos and was also living here in April- I remeber when #10 had an attempted break in and heard the gunshot myself!
Why would anyone make up such a story!!!
No offense to all of the wonderful Americans I have met here, but I have met many, loud, arrogant and ignorant ones as well...and all they do is make a bad name for the ones that aren't! By the same token I have also met a few loud ignorant Canadians, Germans etc.,
After living in a condo that houses residents and tourists alike, NOTHING SURPRISES ME!!! The amount of people that come down here and have no respect or regard for the people that live here is quite simply- appauling!

Not at all, thank you for that insight!

Thank you... That was my idiot associate scaring the hell out of the guard who turned out to be quite a moron with the gun. I keep nice stereo equipment in #10 when I am there. I was out that night because the jerk that was sleeping in #10 was the guy I wrote about. I just left him in the condo and that was when the thief tried to break in. You might even remember me although I cannot recall who you are. What unit do you live in?

This is to all the people that pass judgement onto people that you do not even know. You are entitled to your opinions...that's about it. Thanks for backing this story up!
