Not like August when heat and humidity combine to drive people crazy. Particularly since almost no one has air contioning at home.
Yes, people in Cuba, in particular those who have contact with tourists, only tink of their daily tips, dollars or euros, but who can blame them! Life is tough and regimented over there.
Did the new exchange rate go into effect yet? Did you take dollars or DR pesos? Credit cards?

Sorry to take so long to answer...have been working like crazy to make up some hours before I head to DR in 2 weeks time..YAY!!!
Went to Varadero and Havana...Havana is beautiful and some parts remind me of Santo Domingo. We were in a resort in Varadero unfortunately but went out several nights to clubs off the resort.
The new convertible cuban peso is in effect, I still found it more expensive than DR, even for things like bottled water!
As for life being tough, I completely understand that and would love to help every poor person if I were in a position to do that...but I found them expecting it, something I personally have not encountered in DR...and live is very tough for many Dominicans too...I think it is just a difference in attitudes...and that in Cuba I had the feeling all tourists are perceived as "rich" but havent always had that experience in DR...just some differences I noted!
The weather was close to perfect almost every day...had 2 days where it clouded over a bit in the afternoon but all in all, excellent for a week away with 5 out of 7 days of clear skies and sunshine!
Definately wont be returning though!
