Default Ocean World and general HIGH INFLATED PRICING

The cost for admission-only to Ocean World for an adult is US $55. That includes your bus transfers from your hotel, lunch (food only - no drinks), swimming in the tiger grotto, snorkelling in the tropical reef aquarium, sea lion shows, bird exhibits. I think that's everything but I might have missed something. Dolphin swim, dolphin encounter and sea lion encounter are all extra. It's actually pretty reasonable. I was a rep in Puerto Plata and the majority of the tourists really enjoyed Ocean World. I personally really liked it too.

Conchman, although I disagree with some of the info you posted, (I don't want to go off topic by starting a debate), I want to say that is a FANTASTIC PICTURE.

That said, I was very disturbed to see how OW looks from Costambar. As far as I am concerned, the huge sign on the ocean side is a blight on the landscape. I am also not supportive of a tourist attraction that confines beautiful creatures meant to be free. It is also my understanding that humans carry different fungi that many of these creatures cannot tolerate, and that touching them can result in them becoming quite sick. No matter how fabulous I hear it is, I will never darken their doorstep. I love the Florida law that forbids touching, chasing or harassing dolphins in any way.

And as for DR being a joke, I hope that that was just a poor choice of words.
Well everyone is entitled to their opinions and you are certainly entitled to yours.

I sit here in my living room looking at a picture of my daughter getting kissed by a dolphin with her hair cornrolled and the biggest smile from ear to ear and it just makes me feel great. I never noticed even the slightest mistreatment of animals when I was at Ocean World or at another similar place off the coast of Cancun in Isla Mujeres. I am a little sensative to these things because I use to be a Animal Control Officer working for the Dept. of Agriculture and Markets in NY for many years. I was the guy that use to arrest people for doing the wrong thing involving animals.

I have been to Costambar and Confresi many times and watched Ocean World being built for many years. As far as anything being a blight on Costambar I don't think that is even possible. Costambar leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion. Ocean World is a beautiful place, can you say the same for Costambar?

Smile Dear "VideoSaliva",Please Give The DR A Second Chance!!!!

What may have happened in your case is,that when tourists who are of African origen, and speak "broken English" ,as you do,come to the DR we sometimes take advantage of your ignorance! Sorry, but it can happen anywhere!
That "2 inch Parrot" at $25 US WAS a "rip off"! If you come back,I have a,"6 inch, one eyed trouser snake" I will let you pet for FREE!
Remember, that yellow plastic wrist band you all wear from the "All Delusive" Resorts pegs you as a " Canadian/Englishman/or worse yet, European" low class cheap skate! So you can't blame everyone for taking advantage of you.Since you like the "AZORES" so much, move back there where you "blend in" with the other Africans!

I am going to have to agree with you here. Costambar in itself is pretty ugly, OW is refreshing to the eyes after you've seen the rest of Costambar.

Default Let's agree to disagree

The aerial photo posted is beautiful. But I just really hate large signs. I feel the same way about signs in Canada. Many are just a blight on the landscape. I don't understand why a huge OCEAN WORLD sign needs to be posted facing the ocean.

The other issue, I aplogize for my mis-information. I had heard that people could infect dolphins. Regardless, I still don't support swimming with captive dolphins (or any other animal) for the pleasure of people. There is no law against touching captive dolphins in Fla, however in the wild there is a law.

As far as Costambar is concerned, we happen to enjoy the area. I'm not going to lose sleep over your opinion.

We should have a "Post of the Week" award, with this one winning the inaugral prize - I haven't laughed so hard in a while.

Like I said, everyone is entitled to their opinions. I wouldn't want to take yours away from you.

If we all had the same tastes they wouldnt have big selections in stores, just one and many of them.

You do have to admit that Costambar is an eyesore though

At the time I was referring to the former, but now that you mentioned it I disagree with both parts. If you want to discuss the "conclusions of top marine mammal scientists" I would be glad to start a thread in the debate or environment forum. I don't want to go off-topic in this thread.
