Actually Escot, in general I have noticed an improvement over the last several years. The beach is cleaned daily, vacant lots have been cleaned up a great deal, and a number of young trees have been planted. Maybe we look at it through rose coloured glasses though. Admittedly, we haven't seen many towns in DR. And since we have friends in Costambar and Cofresi, Costambar offers what we want at a price we can afford. Everything we need is within walking distance. Yes, there are some areas that aren't the greatest, and I certainly wouldn't wander around on my own after dark. I have noticed a big increase in the number and boldness of putas. We have never experienced any real problem in Costambar. I just don't want to be anywhere near an AI.

There is so much developement going on it would be hard for Costambar not to benefit a bit generally. Sometimes we are not likely to admit that our back yards aren't the prettiest.
I just had a hard time with your putting down Ocean World when in my opinion it is a big financial boost for the entire area and may even move the National Economy up a tick, the place was built with taste, the owners are kind, decent people, they employ a lot of Dominicans in the area and so many people enjoy the place.
Costambar isn't so bad and I think that the Putas add a bit of color and flavor to the DR. None of them twist your arm I don't think. They were there before the tourist/snowbird/expats moved in and they are not bad people when you talk to them like people for the most part.
I think that driving in the DR adds some color to my life also. I am almost embarrassed to say that I am even getting use to the greed and corruption. I refuse to get use to the garbage flying out of windows though!

That may be extra!
But seriously, when I spent time in Costambar, I liked the area. I didn't notice any working girls on the streets and the terrain looked beautiful and the town tranquil. The real estate agent said it was Costambar, but maybe she was referring to the general area. Sort of how people say they live in the Capital, but they actually live on the outskirts.

Getting back to the orignal post , I would be concerned if the prices were less than they are. It takes a boatload of money to take care of those animals, let alone turn a profit. That is not even mentioning the salaries for quality personel to staff the place etc. etc.
I think we have all heard about similar enterprises that went under due to lack of funding/commitment to the animals in their charge. Sadly, it is usually the animals who have suffered in the end. I have not heard a breath of scandal as far as how the operation treats their animals (and believe me, I have been watching).
We had hoped to visit Ocean World on our last visit, but because of the higher prices of food and drink, had to forgo it this time. It is still at the top of my must see places.
(an aside) To those of us who claim English as their mother tongue, we should be more cautious about spelling and grammatical errors. This may be an informal means of communication, but sloppiness in communication reflects sloppiness in thinking......just a suggestion.

My Dearest "ROSE"!
To discourage anyone, regardless of their "Mother Tongue", from posting on DR1 because they lack good gramatical and/or spelling skills serves no useful purpose!
In my "Humble" opinion that is!!!
Most posters on DR1 tend to find the "Grammer Police" to be a pain-in-the-a$$"!

I agree Chris. And in many cases it is just the fingers can't keep pace with the mind.
Unless you are posting as a lawyer or realtor or ??? answering specific questions - this is not a test of our grammar or spelling.....

I find it fascinating that you choose to pick on me as the "grammar police". I could think of one or two others who might be a tad more appropriate.
My comments were not an attempt at inhibiting anyone from posting on DR1 (would that I had that power........) I should have made it more clear, but my comments were directed at those of U.S. and Canadian origin (interestingly, the Brits don't usually misspell words or use faulty grammar). Nor was it directed at you, Crissssss, who uses mispelling of words in such an artful mannner.
I think where my comments come from is the idea that the "West" produces so much better educated individuals and therefore, the DR should emulate our educations system. From the way that most North Americans present themselves on boards, I hardly think we present a model that should be emulated.
There is a difference between writing English as a second or third language, mispelling for effect, typographical errors, and just being too lazy to think. The latter, and ONLY the latter is what I am complaining about and trying to bring to the attention of the posters on this board.
