Actually, I rather enjoy (most of) CC's posts, even when he is yelling at me.

Cheap place to stay in Puerto Plata
I live in the capital and have wanted to go to Ocean World. I find the $55 admission to be reasonable. DR is expensive now, what to do? However I find the price is reasonable. Does anyone know of any cheap hotels in the area to stay? My plan is to hop on Caribe Tours, visit Ocean World, stay the night in Puerto Plata since its far and head back to the capital the following morning. So I am not looking for a resort, just a clean, decent safe place to stay the night. Thanks!

Hotel Candado is ok, but its about 15 mins drive from Ocean World.
Very close to Ocean World is 'Sensacion' which are 'cabanas' but they also rent rooms by the night and are pretty decent for the price.

I love Ocean World
I have MANY great memories of Ocean World, I thought everything was great...the prices too - for eveything you're getting!!! You get so much included with your admission. I knew the price to swim with dolphins before I went to DR in April - so I was not surprised when I got down there. I kept money aside for it! What a great experience, it was worth it!!!

I'll second
Conchman in recommending the apartementes at the Sensacion. A great value at RD600 for a 2 room suite w/wet bar, pool, AC, cable TV, and 24/7 power and room service. They are indeed very close to Ocean World also, right on the North Coast highway.
The only problem is they only have 8 apartementes, and they don't take reservations, so it's hit or miss. Their cabanas are not nearly as nice IMHO, and will actually cost you more for a full day.
