We are trying to decide between Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus (in Bayahibe) or Iberostar Punta Cana for next month, family vacation. Comments/suggestions welcome on hotel itself, beach, snorkeling, hotel activities for kids and adults, anything else.

Great snorkeling and diving.......
Easy day trip to Catalina Island or Saona Island (good snorkeling at Catalina and good diving at both) without losing several hours on a bus to get to/from La Romana to get to the boats.
Also easy daytrip into La Romana to Altos de Chevron or even to the capital of Santo Domingo for that matter.
Can't comment from direct knowledge on the resorts as I personally have not stayed at either but I've only heard good things about the Bayahibe resort!
Hopefully someone who has actually stayed at one or the other will chime in with their comments.........
I vote for Dominicus/Bayahibe. Both beaches are excellent, but at Dominicus you are not as isolated as you are at Punta Cana. I can highly recommend the day trip to Isla Saona. You can explore the fishing village of Bayahibe which is just 5 minutes down the road. Also you can check out Altos de Chavon in La Romana just 20 minutes away.
Punta Cana is nice but not as children oriented as Bayahibe, both have nice beaches, but would have to agree w/Momm, the snorkling is better in the southeast. Isla Saona....a MUST.
