Thanks for sharing...

I am also a fan of the rivers.

I was thinking of going to Salto de Jimenoa and Constanza when I visit in Nov. Now after seeing your photo's I want to be there now.

I like Playa Bergantin as well....worth the walk from the hotels, and there's one family owned restaurant there that I really like - great family and excellent fresh fish, squid, tostones, and all the cold beer required....
maybe you met them - one of the sons is named Elvis.....

(no not my sankie LOL!!!)

Glad you love the country and got to see so much

WOW, we have mutual friends! That's the family we hang out with in the D.R., not only on the beach but also in their homes and on daytrips and evenings. Mama Elena has become my Dominican 'mami'. Her food is delicious. On our last day she made us lunch consisting of lobster and fish. This was her goodbye-present to us.

I don't complain when we have +28 C here, because it doesn't happen too often.

Where are you? In the D.R.?
Santo Domingo, and I have been to turku, nice city

Default ..Thank you for an interesting report

Did you know that there are a few Finnish families here?
Lektonen
Soni
Mustonen

They are part of a small group of Finns that emigrated here before the Second World War. They were encouraged to come and live here. At least one of them, Mustonen was killed by Trujillo because of his political-probably socialist- beliefs....or so it is said...

The Lektonens ran a starch factory, using the yuca plant--and it was called La Yuquera...just outside of Santiago and they even had a few holes of golf there with sandy greens...

The Soni lived in Jarabacoa and old man Soni lived there all his life. He worked in the municipal government and lived on a farm between the two rivers--La Confluencia...

Enjoyed your pictures..

I didn't know that. Interesting piece of information.

I only knew about the woman in S.D. She moved there in 1930 as a little girl with her parents and still lives there. The first time she visited Finland was in 2000, when Sociedad de Amistad Finlandia - Republica Dominicana invited her and paid for the trip. Last year the same society arranged a dual citizenship for her. She is now in her eighties and still runs a small hostel in S.D. to support herself. Life is hard.
