Default Intercontinental Hotel on the Malecon (Santo Domingo)

Hey everyone

Whenever I go to Santo Domingo, I stay at the Intercontinenal Hotel.

It's around $85 to $100 per night (depending on the season and the type of room you want).

This hotel does not accept AAA membership. But they do have corporate rates.

Breakfast is included and it is very delicious--scambled eggs, all kinds of fresh squeezed juice, ham, cheese, crossants, toast, cereal, milk, coffee, free newspapers (Miami Herald), bacon, some type of Dominican plantation, cakes, bagel, etc.

You can use the internet for free. But only for 15 minutes. 30 minutes is 200 pesos and an hour is 400 pesos. There are three computers and the internet speed is pretty fast.

This hotel is only $10 to $15 more than the Napolitano. But there is a huge difference in terms of service and quality between the two. So I recommend that you pay the extra $10 to $15 per night and stay at the Intercontinental.

For those of you who like to gamble, do not go to the casino inside this hotel. I recommend that you go to the Jaragua casino. If you stand in front of the hotel, make a right and walk for about five minutes. You will see the casino on your right. This casino has a live band, free food which they serve between 10 to 11pm, and the bar has great drinks. For example, a large glass of Johnny Walker with Coke is around 150 pesos.

Here are some pics.

Well, you had me in agreement until you said Johnny Walker and coke!
Uggh!! What a combination!
But other than that, you're right on the money.
A second choice would be the Marriot on Maximo Gomez. Cheap, very new, allows visitors, and I've heard the breakfast is pretty good.

I guess I should not have mentioned the drink combination.

My friend stayed at the Marriot and he said that it was very nice and clean.

Take care.

Hotels in Santo Domingo (Malecon Area).

The best (high end) one right now IMO is the new Hilton. Just because is still brand new...

The Marriott Courtyard is nicer than most courtyards I've stayed in The US. Cheaper than Hilton, Intercontinental, Jaragua...etc. But you get free high speed wireless and very nice new rooms. Breakfast is good, but very expensive (IMO) for a Courtyard. Ample parking also available. No in hotel entertainment.

Jaragua is showing its age. Rooms are dated, elevator broke down with us in it when I was there. Still has the best in hotel entertainment though.

Personally I would stay at The Courtyard and go to The Jaragua for entertainment...
