Default Las Terrenas Hotels

Could anyone provide info on the Palapa Beach Hotel? I am particularly looking for info on noise level, but am interested in any general impressions. Also, would like any info anyone has on Casitas Playa Perdida, particularly their location (proximity to beach and town). Thanks.

"Palapa Beach", according to my source who was in Las Terrenas: It is a nice little hotel on the beach. Not noisy. Apartments are in back.

She will report back on Casitas Playa Perdida..

Casitas Playa Perdida:

Location on "Loma Bonita", a hill surrounded by ocean 270°, between Playa Las Ballenas and Playa Bonita, about 4km West, from Las Terrenas main drag.
This place is very private, a few homes in that hill are grandious and the view is magnificent. Quiet? Yes, very quiet!

Playa Las Ballenas, almost deserted, is a short walk down the hill. Owners of the place, like majority of hotel owners in Las Terrenas are French, expect the usual French attitude towards Americans, but food is delicious, worth the money IMHO.

Hotel Palapa Beach:

Location on Punta Popy, 2km east of Las Terrenas main drag, on the beach.
Rooms are in tropical type bungalows. The place is well known for having beach volleyball tournaments on weekends, also beach BBQ's with pig roast and a lot of fun, 20-30 crowd.

The owner has a 45" boat ready to be charter for fishing, get your friends together and go for that 300lb tuna. Awesome experience fishing off the limits of Silver Banks.

Restaurants in Las Terrenas:

Numerous, and some are good and some are not so good, they all lack
consistency, kind of hit and miss. The Italian restaurant at Playa Colibri is my favorite, the worst are the one in Paseo Mall.

Las Palmas Residence, stay there one week, about 4 years ago. Excelent value at that time, apartments in villas, no swimingpool and not on the beach. Apartments were spacious and decorated in pastel colours, clean and confy. Not noisy, most of the people where older European couples 60+ at that time.

Between them and the beach they build a newer residence, "La Dolce Vita" with a pool and restaurant "Fellini"(Get it?), we eat there once in December 2005, not to bad food, and the ambiance was nice. I have the impression, both property under the same management, but I could be wrong.

I almost forget, the lady at the reception at Las Palmas speak 5 language and a long time resident of Las Terrenas she is very knowledgable and she will give you the right information.

WebDev - do you by any chance know La Residencia El Paseo? It seems to be very centrally located, but not so homey as Las Palmas.
While checking websites of the apart hotels in Las Terrenas I had a funny feeling that they all had the same web designer - they are good but just look very very similar.
Will check if Fellini and La Dolce Vita belong to some Romans
