La Vega CARNIVAL!!

ok if you EVER get the chance, you have to go see the carnival in LaVega...it is wild! the costujmes are fantastic they people are fantastic!. the atmosphere is fantastic.....no where else will you find so many people accept that fact that they may get whacked in the azz or legs with a very painfull thump from some custom made ball on a rope. and continue to go and walk among the people in costumes...they all dred it but revel in its threat!

I didnt understand when my GF said she didnt like going because she got hit and bruised....I thought it was like a mosh pit and they get banged around with fists and elbows and knees!

but it is the ball on a rope , that is as hard as a football!!!!!!!!!! and these guys wind up sometimes and give you a SERIOUS whack!!! with a rope of about 3 or 4 feet it gets some velocity!

and these guys are gunning for who ever cant see them coming... and even if you see them, getting away is difficult........but everyone seems to understand its part of the show!

we were lucky we headquatered at a friends house who happens to be a prominent baby doctor that live on the carnival route!..so we could back into the driveway when we seen a rowdy group coming.Plus all the food and drink and the maids he had made for a really nice afternoon.

I went last year..........couldn't sit down for a week. But it was definitely fun.

I'm looking at pics from the La Vega carnaval on www.elcorito.com and these guys were having a blast. Insane.........makes me wish I was there

I took about 50-75 photos myself..they loved getting photographed. they statd with their hands out and wait.....

then they want to hit you with that ball!! ha ha ha

On my last trip to DR in feb, my boyfriend took me and a large group of his frineds up to La Vega Carnival to have a look.
I was really excited to go, as i go to the carnivals in London every summer.
I was warned about the ass whacking, but was not prepared for the extent of the pain i was about to suffer.
I got hit 5 times, even though i hid behind my BF for most of it, or up against a wall... it seemed everytime i turned my back for one second i got hit.

The pain was immense - i literally felt like i was gonna faint.

I had a good time at the carnival, really great atomsphere, vibrant colours, but couldnt sit down properly the whole journey back to cabarete, and as a souvenier had a BLACK and BLUE bruised ass!!!

i also took loads of pics, but unfortunatly lost my camera at the beac toward the end of my trip

I know exactly what you mean.

I went to Carnival in Mao last Sunday, I got whacked in the ass so hard that I sat down right away and had a tingling sensation for a good hour....
Sooooooooo than..... I borrowed one of the balls from a little boy after I spotted the guy who did it to me, and I nailed him twice as hard !!!

It's all good, until you get hit so hard you loose all feeling in your butt check lol !

lots of the groups have body guards, because they know they get carried away with hitting people and they know some people want to retaliate.

I think whacking a guy as hard as you can aint so bad, they are padded some, but I seen guys wind up and hit women and teenage girls really really hard......thats stupid

I like the atmosphere and the racausness.......juts dont beat the women as hard!.....I say one guy come around and he hit the older men and women with little taps...JUST to say he did it and that was nice...then he hit then guys like he normally would.............

I think the biggest worry is trunign around and seeing a guy in full swing.. then the girl sticks out her hand to try and block the hit and hurts her hand or wrist bad.........

but its an even you want to see at least once
