Cool Santiago/Las Terranas/Samana/Jarabacoa/Santiago

I'm back from my first DR Trip and let me just say that the rental car will need a wheel alignment and possibly a new muffler!!! Bahia de Las Ballenas was a wonderful hotel where I would definitely return although the food was not as good as some of the neighboring guest houses. We went whale watching and were treated to a calf breaching over and over -- what a thrill. The coffee plantation we visited was very informative although the accommodations were dicey. But the two bookends of our trip are the best stories beginning with staying in a "motel" that catered to ???(you fill in the blank) that charged in 4 hour segments and ending with two waiters from Maroma in Santiago hunting us down at our hotel to complain that the American Express Travelers check was not good and didn't we have any money? They wanted my friend to go with them back to the restaurant, no doubt on their motorbike in the middle of the night, to swipe her credit card! She adamantly refused and the desk clerk at the Hotel Plantino agreed to charge the amount as room service to our bill. Thumbs up to Hotel Plantino and thumbs down to Maroma.

ha ha ha ha

I have been to those cabanas just for a hot shower, and once to straighten my girlfriends hair....and not in the old fashioned way us guys do in cababas....but REALLY straighten her hair with a blow dryer!!!!!!!! ha ha ha

thats what sporadic electricity will do to people!!!

hey some of them only charge 195 pesos

of course you have to put up with 5 foot 9 inch doorways( main problem was the bathroom opening)..which can be painfull if you are 6'4" tall!!!!!!!!!!!..then you walk around the whole place crouched over fear!!!!!!ha ha ha

Artemis:

Please tell us about your visit to Samana and Las Galeras. Did you visit the town? La Churcha? Los Cocaos? Playa Rincon? El Limon?

Thanks, Sam
