Rick Snyder is on a distinguished road
Default Week trip to Sosua

Our trip to Sosua started out from El Seybo at 8:00am on Friday. After a 2 ½ hour bus ride, RD$95 each, to SD we took a taxi, RD$100 to the Caribe Tours Terminal. Bought tickets to Sosua for RD$250 each and caught 11:00 bus. The trip up was very comfortable and enjoyable. I try to be observant and one thing I noticed was that the cattle north of SD look much healthier and fatter then those in and around El Seybo. That and the countryside seems to be much greener.

After a stop in Santiago to use the bathroom and get an expensive bite to eat we arrived in Sosua at about 4:00pm. Took a RD$120 taxi from the terminal to Rocky’s and Marco was there in his office busy at his computer. Ted got us situated in our room with two beds and a nice ceiling fan that kept us comfortable during the night. After getting settled in we had dinner at Rocky’s and the food was wonderful as were all meals we ate there. I was exhausted after the long trip so when I had the opportunity I went off to get some much needed sleep.

Saturday morning I slept in till 9:00am and then got up to eat breakfast. Pancakes and eggs with toast and limitless coffee was a much needed change from the typical Dominican fare and I enjoyed it immensely. On the way in to Sosua the afternoon before I saw a go-cart track and decided to take the family there to introduce my son to the art of driving. The track is called the Fun City Go-Kart and is owned by a Russian. It is between POP and the airport on the left as you go towards Sosua. I took the public transportation there at a cost of RD$25 per person and the return trip cost RD$30 per person. The track is very well set up with 3 courses. One oval that is a bumper car setup and bumping is allowed and is for adults and children. A second track is full of curves and is the for adults and children also. The third track if full of curves and is for adults only as the cars go much faster then hose on the other two tracks. Prices are RD$300 for adults and RD$200 for children. They place a bracelet on your wrist and it is good for all day. You can leave and come back as long as you still have your bracelet on. They have bathrooms and a cafeteria to eat.

Got back to Rocky’s that evening, ate dinner and conversed with a number of ex-pats and DR1’ers that were beginning to arrive for the Sunday party.

To be continued.

Rick
