I went with another 3 girls to St. Martin for 7 days. We stayed in a time-share apartment at the Divi Resort in Little Bay. This is in Phillisburg on the Dutch side. The property was under construction, but the views made us forget all the hammering and construction debris around.
The beach was amazing and after traveling to the other beaches around the island, we fell in love with our 'home-beach' - we realized that we didnt need to leave the resort at all! Orient beach was good too. Good sites to see there

We found a Jamaican spot (literally - it was a spot) a very small shack-type place with the BEST and cheapest food. The owner cooked for us almost everyday!
The people were very friendly - not the island to go get a sankie and fall in love, def not the best in the 'lookers' area. I thought America was a melting pot - but now I think St. Martin is more! We met a total of FIVE people that were born and raised in SM. Everybody else is from another island or something. We met some unpretencious French guys (if thats possible, we did it!) They were fun.
Ok, so to make it DR related...
Only one of my friends was Dominican, and we kept wondering why people were so surprised when we told them so. Well, we found out why. We went to a Dominican Club one night and after that day, I refused to be associated with being Dominican in St. Martin!!
This club was seedy, nasty and dirty. I dont know from which bridge they all crawled under from - maybe Guachupita or other ghettos, but that was a strange sight for me to see! They did not dress or act like the Dominicans I'm used to (here or in DR!!) Is like they were stuck in time! They were trying to pull the rapper look but with cheap imitations of the real thing - which made them look even worse. We can honestly say that there was NOBODY to look at!
Even when we were coming home at the airport, there was a flight going to DR and I couldnt believe my eyes. The outfits, the hair, the talk, the attitude - these people look like ones that want to carry chickens on a plane! WOW!
So at any rate, I guess I can now answer the age-old question: what is the magic with the Dominican men (or the Dominican Republic)? First and foremost - our island is beautiful and our people are GOOD looking!!
I have never come back from the DR without 'falling in love' with about 10 faces in ONE night! LOL - you guys know me better that that tho
)
So to sum it up - SM was great - We would go back tomorrow if we could. I'll go siteseeing and to get a great tan, but not to dis-stress me. That I'll go to DR for in a heartbeat!!
