After reading this whole thread I, too, was compelled to go back to the OP. After further review I have to say the ashtray complaint set a petty tone that stuck till the end of the whole, long-winded story. Here’s my take:
- Heavy smoking was not immediately accommodated. (That is to say several ashtrays were not immediately delivered. I’m sure heavy smoking persisted, regardless of the health and comfort of others.)
- Heavy drinking was not 100 % accommodated. (That is to say Jack Daniels, which is bourbon, was not always readily available. Plenty of drinking must have gone on, though, because….)
- Food was not delivered via room service at 2:30 in the morning. (Demanding room service at 2 AM is what drunk people do.)
After these “Big 3” complaints, it boils down to unreliable hot water and unreliable electronic room keys. Pesky things that can happen on a trip.
Two things toward the end of the story struck me as odd, or stupid, or both.
First: “I asked what happens if we miss the bus. She said we would have to pay for a taxi to the airport.” I think I would have just hopped a taxi before handing over my credit card. Surely a cab ride to the airport would have come in under 3,000 US dollars.
Second: You had to be told by “Tripmate Insurance” to seek medical attention for your husband, who was delusional with fever? Well, I guess it’s a good thing you called them.

LOL, this post was funny, but so true. Like most of the DR1 members who posted on this thread, I agree that the OP were just a bunch of complainers. I'm surprise she didn't say that she wanted one of the workers to clip her toes nails and wipe her behind, but the resort workers were so rude that they declined. Jesus, some people.
And by the way, Rick may be the only one blind to this, but the husband broke the door... and it was no accident. It's more like rage.

Must be nice!
I feel sorry for you and your ideals of thinking everybody is attacking you and not been able to see reality as it is.
It's easier to close a post when you have the power, isn't it Trujillo!

As mentioned it was undoubtedly the “use our brain in different ways” which was the reason that there were those that posted in a childish way and was therefore the (understandable?) reason to rant and attack the OP. You can justify it all you want but the fact remains what you and a few other members did wasn’t right and not in keeping of the DR1 way and the reason we are here.
Now let us talk about my loss of your respect and its bearing on the operations of the world or the price of tea in China. Need I say more???????
When you resort to vituperativeness in your posts as you did and as HOWMAR just did you serve no useful purpose to this board. If it is your desire to be useless then far be it from me to rant about it unless you should be so bold as to attempt to attack me for your ineptness. (I just noticed you quickly jumped on HOWMAR’s band wagon) not suprising but typical….. Wasn’t something mentioned about supplying enough rope???
If it is your intension to try to attack me then I will forewarn you that it is a complete waste of time. It has been attempted by better people then you to no avail.
Let me close this post out with a comment about your statement about voicing an opinion. Remember what they say about opinions – Just like axxholes everyone has one…….

Not to mention that at that point she was already home. I found it strange that someone who has such high standards that only goes to five-star resorts (why she went to an AI in the DR?) wouldn't have called their own doctor first. I would hope she as particular picking her doctors as she is picking her hotels.

There you go letting the alligator mouth overtake that bunny rabbit butt again......
I sit back anxiously awaiting your next words of wit. Please don't disappoint me as I know I can depend on you.

Now with this particular case-they hand over their card-sign it-get on the bus-go home and rant they had a miserable time. What is their defense?
That they didn't want to go to a local court and settle it in front of a judge?
I don't think that's going to cut it with a CC provider? Doesn't the hotel have a say in the matter? That's why we have courts and a justice system. Oh, I know, there is no justice in a third world for a loud, ****ed off American, so don't go there. That's the obvious.
IMHO they don't have a chance in hell to get rid of the charge without damaging their credit.

Having already had several disputes with restaurants and places both inside and outside the US my credit card company has always protected except for one case where I simply refused to pay that portion of the bill and cancelled the credit card. They were also warned in writing by my lawyer that if anything shows up on my credit report they would be held liable for damages. The credit card company had to settle the dispute with the vender not me.

Uh, more like, drunken rage. I used to own a bar, I've seen it in person, many a time.
One of the reasons I got out of the bar business.
