Breezes has a nice, but quite small disco. They have recently got a new dj so the music isnt as good as it used to be, but it is still a good atmosphere...when there are a few people in there anyway. Last time we were there, we spent a few nights in there dancing like crazy people. This time, I think we spent 15 mins in there for one night before we went into Sosua.

Crazy Moon is in Playa Dorada and is quite close to Roadway and Hemmingways, if I remember correctly. Ive never been in there but I am a big fan of Mangu!!!!

Question Lobster??

Clare - somewhere in the past year or so I read that on one or two nights there is lobster served at the outdoor buffet? Do you know if this is true or not? Just curious as to what nights they would be.

Also where does the shuttle to Cabarete drop you off at??

In all the time I have stayed there, I have never seen any lobster Im afraid. Maybe they do serve it sometimes, but I have never seen it. Come to think of it, Ive never been to an outside buffet either. We seem to have missed all the excitement.

Cabarete is just one long street so I am sure the shuttle just drops you off somewhere along there so its easy to get to the beach..I have never used that shuttle as we always get a car.

When you move there to teach, will you be able to afford a car or will you be taking conchos? You also said that the teaching job would pay for half your rent - how will you finance the other half of the rent? food? clothing? electricity bill? water? Just curious! Your boyfriend works in animation, and that does not pay for anything other than their personal expenses. It would be wise to set up a budget before you go there. I'm concerned that you are giving up a great carreer in the UK for a life of poverty and no future pension because of an animation worker. Wish you all the best.

Thanks for the concern.

I only plan to teach there for 1 or 2 years and then come back to the UK. I am going to save up some money before I go so that I have a 'just in case' fund.

Im not going to buy a car as the apartment is next door to the school, so there is no need. Transport is cheap enough into Puerto Plata if we need to go there for anything.

I have a friend that is moving over there with me and my cousin already lives there, so I will have friends already.

Aswell as getting paid, I get half of my rent paid for by the school. So from my wages, I only have to pay the other half of the rent, and then the rest of the money is mine to do as I please. The rent covers water, electricity etc.

I am not moving there because of my bf. I made a choice to move there last September and the time I can move is from this June. It just so happens I have met someone, so it is good timing to see if it will work out while I am over there.

Betty - when I was there last Janaury they had a Beach Party each week which had the buffet take place outside. I can't recall Lobster but I know they had Seafood nights each week.

While we were there last year they did serve "lobster". Not the same as back home. Was much smaller (like crayfish). Those who ate it said it was good. I

Thanks everyone again. Just heard that the casino is CLOSED for renovations? Does anyone know any thing about this and when they plan to reopen? Someone on a board told me that it could be days or months. We booked this resort because casino was on grounds. If anyone knows or can find out....THANKS

Yep, it was closed when I was there. I have never been in, but I hear it is a bit of a dodgy place, so maybe better off without it. Ocean World has a new casino that may be worth a try....or there are lots in Playa Dorada. I like the one next to Mangu, especially the free drinks!!!! We drink fast and play the cheapest slot machines slooooowwwwly haha!!

Got any space in your suitcase BettyB2? I could be your tour guide. Booked my flight today for March...78 days to go.

Sorry Clare - no room in the suitcase with all the supplies I am bringing down.

Can you tell me the best way to get to Playa Dorada (and cost)? How many casinos are in that complex?

We are planning one evening at OW casino - but one reason I decided oon Breezes is because of the casino on the grounds. We stayed at Breezes in Nassau this past February (39 of us) and we LOVED it. There was a casino in less than 5 minutes walking distance.
