I know this isn't probably the place to give this info, but I figure since you and TkToronto were thinking of taking a trip back there, if you're interested in doing an internship (whilst you learn more spanish and about the country, etc), you should check this out:

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development - GFDD - Home Page

There is an internship section managed by a lady named Alicia Alonzo...I've met up with her and she's very willing to help if you're interested.

Thanks again for the read!

Jose

Actually, this is the perfect place for this information! I'm going to check the link out as soon as I finish responding to everyone's comments. I'm actually looking for a door to open for me to be able to live there for 6 months to a year. My current job has work from home capabilities and we have a guy working on our team who lives in PR. DR might be a bit of a stretch for my company but I'm going to look into it after I have a few more projects or a little more time under my belt. I've always been a proponent of the school of thought that living somewhere is the best way to learn the language. I can't wait till my door opens! I'll be on that plane faster than a New York Minute!

your story was GREAT! I too was in DR from Dec 16th 2006 to Jan 2nd 2007 and did a lot of travelling myself! Only thing is i rented a car. but DAMN you covered a lot of ground. I was in Bayahibe and drove all the way to Bani and i remember that being a LONG FREAKIN DRIVE, so i can only imagine what you went through on the guagua! you're nuts! but you had a TRUE dominican experience! I never made it out to Higuey but will try to my next trip! post pics up! would love to see it!

Yes, Jaime. In the words of the late, great, Tupac Shakur, "I get around!" Bani was a LOOOOOOOONG ride on 2 busses and a taxi. The guagua was with AC so it wasn't so bad other than the suitcase that we had to hold on our laps. You definitely need to get to Higuey. It's such a nice little city. I had no idea someone was there around the same time I was. We could have NOT had Presidente's together! (If you read my story you know how I feel about those!) When's the next trip? And you are SUPER brave for renting a car! You MUST have had a friend with you like I did. The roads there are kinda like playing bumper cars--that's the best thing I can equate the traffic to! You are truely to be admired.
