The owners are Peter (British) & Flemming (from somewhere Scandanavian). Both GREAT guys. I've stayed in the on-site apartment a number of times. As I recall, the rate was around $45/night. The apartment is large, but the bedding configuration is best for one person (or a couple who doesn't mind one double bed). No in-room safe, but I've never had a problem with security there (it's locked down pretty well at night, and guests get a key to the gate).
There's AC in the bedroom, but not in the large living/cooking/eating area. Judicous use of the AC is appreciated by the proprietors (translation: don't turn it up full blast in the morning, then head to SD for the day, please).
The cool thing about staying there is that after the bar/resaurant closes, you have the entire bar/patio area (with a killer waterfront view) pretty much to yourself. Same is true in the early AM.
It's ideal for the solo male traveler who enjoys his own company. It's not for the person who wants to party with a gang of folks at his place 'til the wee hours (out of respect for the owners, who live on site).
I find Playa Vista "vibe" to be similar to Rocky's (in Sosua)... but minus the multiple accommodations... and MUCH closer (like 10 meters) to the water.
Macmasher gives "two thumbs up" on staying at PV (or for that matter, just hanging around all day).
