heyas kyle.

I am trying (in vain) to find some info on the cheap place i told you about (Playa Vista). I was told it was only 25 a night...AC and decent security....but otherwise bare bones. I am thinking of going back in a few weeks with a buddy of mine for my birthday...and i kinda wouldnt mind checking out some place different.

Just got my bill from my hotel in santo domingo...and they only charged me 22 for the night..not the 46 i was quoted! how cool is that!

anyone have any contact info on playa vista?

wow..this is really strange. That hotel that only charged me 22 a night rather than 46.....the charge has vanished from my account all together!!!

yeah..i googled and found that link too. My friend in andreas is supposed to look into it for me and find the number for me to call. If i stay there i will give a report ;-)

Yeah..there is no real need to travel back so soon for me...but a buddy of mine is interested in going...so it will be a short trip..gotta get back to work SOME day here.

Hmmm...M.A.R. i HOPE you are wrong...but either way...i had a blast in the cap that night...and i can afford the 46 dollars if they end up billing me for it

Re: The Playa Vista. It's owned by a couple of english speaking guys, Randy and Peter. I believe they only have one room for rent which would be located directly above their beachfront bar/restaurant. I spent a good deal of my week's vacation in their lounge chairs. They are friendly and helpful and have a blog on here as well.

The owners are Peter (British) & Flemming (from somewhere Scandanavian). Both GREAT guys. I've stayed in the on-site apartment a number of times. As I recall, the rate was around $45/night. The apartment is large, but the bedding configuration is best for one person (or a couple who doesn't mind one double bed). No in-room safe, but I've never had a problem with security there (it's locked down pretty well at night, and guests get a key to the gate).

There's AC in the bedroom, but not in the large living/cooking/eating area. Judicous use of the AC is appreciated by the proprietors (translation: don't turn it up full blast in the morning, then head to SD for the day, please).

The cool thing about staying there is that after the bar/resaurant closes, you have the entire bar/patio area (with a killer waterfront view) pretty much to yourself. Same is true in the early AM.

It's ideal for the solo male traveler who enjoys his own company. It's not for the person who wants to party with a gang of folks at his place 'til the wee hours (out of respect for the owners, who live on site).

I find Playa Vista "vibe" to be similar to Rocky's (in Sosua)... but minus the multiple accommodations... and MUCH closer (like 10 meters) to the water.

Macmasher gives "two thumbs up" on staying at PV (or for that matter, just hanging around all day).
