Default Boca Chica 5/2-5/7 2007

hello all,

just got back from 6 days in Boca Chica. upon arrival the taxi took me to El Caucho where i had a reservation. after some quick looks at rooms and a long conversation with Francesco (what a great guy !!) i decided not to stay there and moved on to El Candil. upon arrival at El Candil i met Marisa the new Italian owner (love her tatoos !!) she had rooms available and i quickly got settled in a room, no problems. what i like about El Candil is the 24 hour security (everyone has to be buzzed in at the gate), the clean pool and the nice little restaurant. btw, you can pay as you go at the restaurant or they just put it on your tab and you pay when you check out. my room was cleaned everyday, hot water and the a/c was cold.

the construction going on behind the El Candil is an apartment building and a new hotel. the noise is not a big deal unless you stay on that side of the building. it's actually not as bad as the motos. there is also a new colmado directly across the street which cuts down on the walk to duarte to get some small items. the old Cosmos is now a new/bar disco called Amberandan. a dominican lady named Helen is the unofficial hostess (what a doll). i'm not sure who the owner is.

lastly, there was a guy staying across the hall from me. my second day i ask what his name was and it turned out to be jrzyguy !! we had a brief drink on duarte one evening and i saw him again on monday at breakfast.

had a great time in Boca Chica, may thanks to Marisa at El Candil, the chinese food place (nice rice and fried chicken), pizzeria nepolitana (great spaghetti bolonese and lasagne), ristorante galliano (? located on the beach), the Pollo place (love those 1/4, 1/2 and whole baked chickens), Isla Bonita (love those sailor outfits the girls wear !!).

that's a wrap !!

Shows the negativity around here. If in the report you stated you met a nice girl this would be on the 3rd page.

Hi Cotton:
I stayed at this hotel in late Feb - Mar and the rate was $53 US a night for the apartment with air and like Kyle said great hotel. We stayed 16 days and after a couple of days did not even hear all that construction. Learned to take a nap if needed with jackhammers going under my bedroom window. LOL It was our first time staying there and we loved every minute of the stay. Im going back in November for 2 more weeks and will stay at the El Candil for sure!! Hey Kyle my husband and myself also met Jrzy guy aka Jamie and we had a blast with him at the beach and on Duarte in the evening. If you decide to stay at this hotel I am sure you'll love it Cotton.

i paid $47 US for an apartment with air. ask for apartment which is away from the construction preferably. a-4 and a-6 are closer to the street side and the new colmado/massage parlor across the street gets kind of rowdy every night so if you can avoid those.

have fun !!

Yo Kyle

What was the deal/issue with El Caucho?

I'm planning a BC trip in late summer and had stayed at El Candil in January. I was not all that impressed however, I agree with the the guard, gate, restaurant props.....

I was looking for " a little nicer"....any ideas about Calypso Beach House around the corner?

I was in A-3. Luckily i liked the music from the new colmado...a couple of times it got kinda loud and roudy...but it wasnt that bad...but if you really want quiet ask for a-4...although B-1 or 2 was kinda nice last trip.

Oh..i have to put in a comment here about the water in BC. I have NEVER had a problem in the past...but my first day there last week..there was definitely a funky sorta smell to it. The guy on the chair next to me explained that the ocean has its occasional "period" (LOLOLOL) WAY too vivid for me. But it was a really hot day...no breaze and the water was very still. The rest of the week it was totaly fine.

Candil is still a great place. I still miss some of the personalities of the previous administration. But I think Marisa, Yitzak, Sandy and the rest of the staff are doing a decent/good job and i most likely will stay there again when i return. I keep on hearing about another place....25 bucks a night with AC and good security....i will PM ya kyle if i find out more about it.

Oh..pryatt...i was in contact for a while with a woman who liked calypso...i meant to stop by and check it out last week...but i got busy.
