No one cares
6 times my family and I have visited DR. The last time an injury occurred and we lost out entire vacation. There was no lawyer that I tried to contact that would help a tourist out when in a crisis situation. What kind of professional function in DR. Are they afraid of their shadows. I am very upset that things are that difficult to comprehend when you ask for assistance. We, out group, our relatives, friends and neighbors will never travel to DR again....unfortunately. The people of DR do not seem to care and neither will we. There are many islands to choose from, never DR.

I believe that Fabio Guzman explained the situation fairly well to you , including that there are no punitive damages in the Dominican Republic.
As Fabio also explained to you, suing the hotel would not be worth the return, and the lawyers know that, so that would make them disinterested in the case, as they work for money, just like most people do.
Fabio also explained to you that you would have to post a bond, as you do not reside here.
Did you do that?

You probably found out the hard way that this country doesn't have punitive damages so therefore if the projected monetary compensation that you could win is low it would probably be difficult to find a lawyer.
If you planned the trip with a travel agency you might want to talk with a lawyer about how to pressure the travel agency to pressure the hotel. Obviously, it wouldn't be good PR for a hotel if travel agencies suddenly stopped promoting their place. However, it may be difficult to get much more than the actual fair compensation for the physical injury, excluding mental anguish, stress and all that stuff of course.
Good luck

Perhaps the OP would be happier if some of the laywers who didn't take her case did as some lawyers in the US are known to do:
Take a person's case KNOWING that there's no case at all only for the sole purpose of TALKING ALL YOUR MONEY!!.
I am really surprised she couldn't find ONE Dominican laywer to take the case and steal her money!!.
Stop craying us a river and count your blessings!!.

in this country people (and their families) are responsible for the problems they get themselves into. This is not a nanny state! if you cant take care of yourself and think it is someone elses responisibility, go somewhere else.
On the other hand, most dominicans are EXTREMELY helpful when thety see people in crisis. In my experience people will bend over backwards to help out, spending a day or two of their own time to care for people in trouble. There are lots of stories like this on the site. Either you were very obnoxious and people didnt want to help you because of that, or they were very helpful and you failed to notice or appreciate it.

I asked my insurance company about a claim overseas and they were willing to look into it. I did not follow through as it never became as serious as I initially thought, but nevertheless, is worth a shot.
Are there punitive damages in other islands? Would you let us know once you find out and then swear them off too? DR is so far beyond ahead than many other islands! so good luck. We'll miss you.

What a terrible situation ! You couldn't even make everyone else's life miserable by taking them to court to blame them for your own problems and force them to pay you money ! I really feel bad for you...
