Our February2008 trip recently brought us such enjoyment. The Bahia Estella resort with its 80 rooms consisting of both standard size rooms and Suites were well maintained, colourfully furnished and clean. The pool was clean and cool, just right for a refreshing dip after spending long hours sunbathing. The Staff were very polite although, I have to admit, it was a little frustrating that none of them spoke English. We simply tried to speak Spanish (when in Rome...) with the booklet that was handed to us upon arrival showing all the words we would need to know. On the other hand, the four of us were the only English-speaking visitors on the resort as most of the visitors were either Italian, German or French. No wonder there is no need for the Staff to speak English! The weather was great during our vacation. There was always music being played around the pool. Nice. Activities were scheduled although the staff had a difficult time trying to anyone to participate. The food was your standard Dominican fare - I have to say that it all tasted good. The selections were good but I did miss the black beans and yogurt smoothies that can be usually found at the other DR resorts. Samana is a work in progress as it is still very young. But I would recommend this resort to anyone who was looking for some R&R in lovely surroundings with great service. I look fwd to re-visiting Samana/Bahia Estella in 5 yrs when it has developed fully.
