With me agreeing with everything posted so far, rent a small 4 wheel, if possible economy vehicle, the roads are treacherous. And I'm not trying to scare you, but going thru some hoods you have small streams, with no bridges, pot-holes 2 feet deep and again expect the unexpected. Go full coverage ins. and better. And when in Santo Domingo, dont expect anyone to look before changing lanes. And I'm a retired ex-cop from Philly ,32yrs , with no accidents on my record, including a couple of bad guys I purposely ran off the road, but that doesn't count........So have fun, like I do, just be extra carefull.

LOL, As a friend of mine there says, "some of the pot-holes in the DR are big enough to swallow a VW!
