emj,
It's hard to believe that you lived there for nearly 2 years and they either don't believe that you were living there, even though you have shown proof or they are trying to say that your relationship isn't true..... unreal!
Best of luck to you. There is still some hope that you will receive good news!

Here's an article about immigration Canada from Toronto Star today. It mentions Port-au-Prince....

I don't understand why some MP's say they can't get the information. I had asked for a second update from my MP's office and Haiti emailed my MP that they were ready to issue the visa. Not only did my MP's office call to tell me this they also faxed me a copy of the email.

As mentioned get them to at least tell you when the letter was mailed out and when it was mailed out.

Haiti has been doing some things differently - so maybe they are starting to send out letters before asking for passports. Until you hear no - you have to keep hope that it's yes!

I was told that if you are denied, you should appeal ......how on earth can one person say whether or not your relationship is genuine or not......how did your hubby's interview go???
alot of people say don't waste your money on a lawyer....but I still think lawyers know best...especially if all is genuine....they can guide you .......I think Immigration Canada needs to revise their process !

i dont understand how some people are given personal cell/emails and work extensions and others are told dont call and nothing can be told over the phone.

i guess it could be the person themselves (i.e. the mean lady!!) or the difference between good or bad news.

hoping for the best for you emj...i would do what johana and boogirl suggested and see if your MP can find out when the letter was sent and to whom it was sent...at least then you will know approx when and where it will arrive.

stay positive

Sangria, in my case, when i sent the mail, i wrote it with a personal name of the agent. Thats why she called me back and emailed me with her phone number and extension.

But i can tell you that i tryed to called, cause the santo domingos ambassy told my husband to, and they dont even talk by phone. they just keep saying dont call its imposible give information by phone.

So i think that using the names agent was the difference but maybe thats the reason why we got the letter for interview and not only the call...

when i called haiti we were put right through to the officer.

she gave me her personal cell and said that is the best way to reach her at any time of the day/evening. her email to me had her full name, extension # and her job title. I know there are others who have recently gone through this process that were also given this info and able to connect with their officer as required.

i do agree coco that if you know the name of the person you are calling and/or address an email to someone specifically you probably have a better chance at getting a response...although i really think it depends who the officer is and whether they feel like responding.

I kind of think it might have to do with the type of info that is being requested...giving the refusal verdict over the phone is probably considered "sensitive information"....i couldnt imagine being the officer and telling someone they have been denied....what an earful they might get!

when we were approved, she gave us the details over the phone and advised that she would be emailing us with the same information for our records.

So...if they give out approvals over the phone, it can't be a privacy issue....probably more of an excuse/policy to protect the government and their employees from backlash or being verbally attacked by upset applicants.

I hope I am wrong and that they are now sending Approval Letters....

coco...if you have the email address for your officer, could you not email her and ask which month your interview will be in? if you are dealing with something, you probably have a better chance of getting that info than your MP.

tell her you are trying to plan to be there at the same time and maybe she can give you a better idea?

sangria, when i got her on the phone, i tryed to know it but she didnt answer me. I explained the situation like you said but she didnt tell me about wich month it will be. i think it could be worse if i write again to know when we will get the interview... Do you think?

I DID ask for her by name. I asked for the woman who had sent me the e-mail requesting more documents.

Another thing I find unfair is that the others were told AT the interview that more was required. My husband was told at the interview that she needed what he brought but nothing more. Then 3 weeks later we are told we need to provide more. It is their mistakes that are slowing this down. I don't know why we're being treated so differently when we have proven sooo fully that we are legit.

Also, medicals officially expired today. Don't know what to think of that.

Oh yeah, Happy Canada Day everyone. It's really fun watching all the coverage of new immigrants saying how happy they are to be here. Woopie.

PS- thanks Deecat, I don't have the heart to investigate appealing until I hear for sure it's a no. I'm still holding on to hope that they knew a real couple when they saw one. Especially with my plethora of supporting documents that they probably hardly ever see. My hubby's interview went sooo well - he had her laughing, smiling, and she told him he was "refreshing" compared to what she normally sees.
