Fireman,

My husband was recently asked to submit an original marriage certificate and a copy of his civil document (birth certificate).

Luckily when he went to the JCE office to get our marriage certificate and his birth certificate for our application he requested two of each. He also had the foresight to have both of them translated.

So when he sent the requested documents I told him to send the translations as well. His letter didn't specify that translations needed to be sent....but when filling out the application it does say those documents need to be translated....so just in case we sent the translations.

My husband's birth cert. is the Extracto de Acta -short version.

It shouldn't be any problem for your wife to get the required documents

Hope that helps

Johana,
I was under the impression from the info posted by others that only the Acta Inextensa was acceptable by immigration. Did they specify in the letter that your husband recieved which one they wanted?

Thanks Isabelle,
I guess it's US immigration that requires the long version.

i dont know if it helps but i did call the immigration hotline about this a couple of weeks ago...asking whether to send the short or long one.

the representative said ... if you have both send both that way you are covered.

it seems even they aren't sure which is the correct one

Anna,
no they did not specify. The request was actually for him to submit a photocopy of all the civil documents submitted with our application.
I submitted an original birth cert. with our application. I guess they cannot make their own photocopy
Now let's see if they get technical with us. As each certificate has a unique document number the photocopy we sent is not a copy of "the" birth certificate we submitted (which I have just in case) but is a photocopy of "a" birth certificate....same info different docuement number.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/E33061.PDF

The guide for Port-au-Prince does not specify which version of the birth certificate to send. It just indicates the extract from the archive.

Im not sure what registering the birth within three months means?..How would you know? Is it written on the birth certificate? If not, then how would one obtain the hospital records, baptism certificate or likewise? I want to get everything clear before i submitt the papers in july. The less they ask for and the more clear everything is the better..i hope!

Sherri,

My husband's birth certificate, Extracto de Acto, says that on the 19th of September his father declared that on the 6th of September a boy, Jose Aquiles, was born in Puerto Plata.

Check your husband's it should read similar. If these dates are more than 3 months apart I would sent the extra information.

As to where to get them would the hospital or church have the respective records?

My husbands birth was registered a year after he was born..lazy father i guess!..We found his original Baptism certificate. Do we just make a copy and send it along as well or does that have to be translated and certified like the birth certificate? I hope not...more money!
