Default Background check for Canadian PR

Does anyone know what a background check is? I thought that was when you did the police certificate?

We are talking about the "Buen Conducto" papers, aren't we?
I hope someone who has more recent details on this, will soon chime in.
My info could be sooooo outdated.

I'm not sure what "Buen Conducto" means. But when you get the police certificate done, is that not giving them the info they need? So what is the point of the police certificate then? Or they want it in more detail. When they are paper screening your papers what are they looking at then? Proof of your relationship....

Hi Castro sorry I missed your question. Do you mean a background check of your husbands PR to Canada?

Have they asked for a new one because the other one expired? Not sure how long a police certificate is good for. Have you recieved a letter from Haiti asking for more papers?

Yes he just redid his medical, police certificate and police service sheet. We sent it UPS so I know they did recieve it. Police certificates expire 30 days after they are issued( the old police certificates). But once you mail it with your application it does'nt matter if it expires after 30 days, that is what I was told from the office in mississsuga. No, we did not recieve a letter from Hait. After my husband sent the papers UPS I asked my MP to follow up with Haiti to see if they made a decision based on the new papers he sent. Haiti sent an e-mail telling my MP that they are now doing a background check. And it will take another three months. I was approved as a sponsor on April 2/2007 and my application went "in process" on May 10/2007 .They started paper screening his application Dec 12/2007 .His papers expired Jan 19/2008, which are all redone and sent. And now this....now they say they have to do a background check. What have they done from May10/2007 to Dec12/2007? Seven months which nothing was done. Another 3 months will bring us to 15 months of waiting. Is'nt that long enough??????

It's unfortunate that by the time they get to a file some documents have expired so that isn't your fault.

But you have to realize that from the time they approve you as sponsor and the file arrives in Haiti it just sits there until they get to it. In process seems to mean it's in the pile but they are not working on it until the 7, 8 or 9 months have passed and by that time they need updates on documents such as they have asked you for.

It's very frustrating because it's not the applicant's fault that it takes so long for them to get to each file and it's a shame that our immigration system works that way.

Sounds like the back ground check in this case means they are rechecking everything and that's going to delay things for another 3 months.

Very frustrating indeed!!!

Anna - I read the thread you posted the link to above relating to the new Police Clearance. That is the one we were told they only give out now. After we got it my husband said we had to make it "official" afterwards and we spent a couple of hours taking it to different places to get it stamped and signed. Right now as I look at it there is the one official stamp on the front of the clearance and 5 stamps on the back with signatures and dates. This was all done in Santo Domingo.

My husband said we also had to do the same with our Marriage certificate and so we got that done too and that has 4 stamps on the back all signed and dated.

Did anyone else get all those stamps??
