No. My husband is Domincan and when he has UK visa and we go there via Madrid, he and I get separated at Madrid airport. After we have left the plane from Santo Domingo he is taken off and has to wait (somewhere) and then boards the plane to England and I go through the normal channels and board the plane. He cannot come with me as I go into international departures and they sort of arrest him (and the kids) but then put them on the plane!! It was a bit traumatic the first time but now we are used to it. At the check in for the plane to England I refuse to board until they confirm to me that he is on board the plane. It works!!

So no transit visa required but expect to be separated in Madrid.

Matilda

miesposo got few visas, always, i believe, issued in spanish embassy regardless of destination (spain, italy, france) as at some point he was travelling through spain. and no, you can still get get your visa refused, it is approved first by people who check all the paperwork and THEN it has to be approved and signed by the consul/ambassador (?). since miespose stopped travelling with his parents he did not have visa problems because he always had a job plus some assets.

point of this thread is that:
1. you can apply for a schengen visa in any schengen country,
2. when married to EU/schengen citizen you can try for 2 years multiple entry visa (maximum they give now),
3. you can apply for a visa without invitation or tickets.

and yes, it is going to be hard if applicant is poor and jobless

chiri, no polish embassy, trust me, polish flag is white and red (monaco and indonesia have very similar but red and white). to re-new my passport i have to travel either home or to venezuela...

No I don't think so. they basically are 'arrested', and taken to 'holding pen' where they are kept till flight is leaving. It would be good if she had working cell phone (we didn't) to save panicking!! I went through normal channels and I had no idea where they were. When I got to check in for england I refused to board till I had confirmation that my husband and the kids were on the plane. Luckily I saw them out of the window getting on the plane so then I got on. I had no idea where they were and why they had been taken away as 6 months earlier that had not happened. But when I got on the plane they were cool - no problems, just me who was worried!! Whe you get off the plane from here you have to go to passport control, but if you have no Schengen visa they send you back and that is where you get separated. Even though you want to stay with her they will not let you. So you go through the normal way and she goes a different way and you meet on the plane.

Does anyone know if this applies to parents or siblings? My mom is going to apply for the visa to come visit me sometime this year. I'm both EU and Dominican (not necessarily in that order ) citizen. Thanks.

Dominicans do not need a transit visa for the Schengen area. The transit visa for Schengen only applies for a small number of countres that are considered particularly suspect.
Matilda, interesting account of how immigration in Madrid deals with the situation. I wonder whether that separation and police-control is particular for Madrid, or something that happens in other aiports too. Any experiences with this process in Paris, Schiphol, etc?

I thought it might be Peru, which is more likely than Indonesia or Monaco to have an embassy here, but their embassy is in Los Cacigazcos. Next time I go past I'll have a closer look. PS My 'country' also has a red and white flag.

It's between 26 de enero and Dr Defillo; Betancourt and Sarasota, if anyone else has any ideas.

I remember seeing the equivalent in Miami airport, before everyone needed a US visa to transit.

multiple entry visa is also issued to those who have travelled frequently both to europe and america and apparently US green card and even US visa helps. ask your mum to try for a long-term visa on the interview but final decision as to visa type is made based on paperwork so make sure they are all in order...
